I wonder if this might have anything to do with Floating_Red's and other's observation that the scan progress indicator would sometimes hang, even though the full scan was progressing otherwise normally. In this issue, moving the mouse seemed to snap the UI into the present and the file count would suddenly update to the correct total. SInce delphinium's scans were idle time, no UI was displayed and no mouse gesture would have snapped the counter awake, If it is not a just a UI issue, but also involves the logging operation as well, what would happen if the scan count froze at 39,400 and stayed there until the scan completed? Is it possible that this incorrect count would be logged, rather than the actual correct number of files that were actually scanned?
I have no idea. But to me, there seem to be some similarities in the two issues that appear to have more to do with the displayed information than with the actual completeness of the scan.

Maybe its used by the tech guys to do some homework for them? ![]()
What I'm assuming is that it got more "preliminery" checks to complete ie scan for rogue antiviruses before it finally gets around to scan your PC.

Yeah but it should show the correct time elasped/items taken after the scan. Then again maybe I'm wrong and the time show how long the scan takes, counting up even though the UI is frozen.

That's what I'm saying - the times all seem relatively consistent with a complete scan. But we know the UI has issues where it hangs at one point in the file count, even though the scan is continuing. Delphinium's observations hint that logging might be similarly affected. Whether the two are related to a common cause, I don't know - I'm just finding the apparent similarities interesting.

Hi SOJ:
I'm thinking it is a logging issue rather than a lack of scanning, but I still recall the splits in the idle time scans, when for some reason the scans would stop, and then restart and scan again from the beginning, taking the same cookies over and over and over......
The UI is so poor on 2011, that you can't tell what is going on any more except that it is using up 99% of my CPU. Impressive!!

Yeah but Delph doesn't say anything about hanging UIs. Get it? Hanging? ![]()

Not yet, "yours" have to be approved first. ![]()
Seriously though, we should get back on track so Symantec will not get lost in the "levity" when they do review this thread. ![]()
