Re: Received NIS 2011 update to 18.6.0.29

They should post a link to the update here with a disclaimer so some of us have the option of downloading it manually. IE8 is killing me, I don’t want to get on line anymore.

Hi tyler550,

I can't help being curious. What suddenly makes IE 8 so painful to use? It was until recently the most recent version.

Sorry, just me being curious. :smileywink:

Best wishes.

tyler550,

While that might sound like a good idea we actually do it via LiveUpdate for some very good reasons such as:

1. It minimizes the delivery channels to ways we control so that if anything goes wrong we can track it down and correct it.

2. It allows us to control the numbers released so that if anything unexpected goes wrong we limit the issue.

The testing the teams do is very rigorous and wide ranging but the rule of "you can't test everything" applies and the more we can control the boundaries the better the release is and the better ultimately it is for you in that we not only put out a better update but put it out faster and with a smaller phase window.

AllenM

In MY experience: Not as secure as FF, very unreliable; it constantly freezes or crashes. Download speeds slower & I suffer from constant drop outs. Lack of very useful add ons & appealing themes. Not as user friendly as FF.

Bk,

Thanks for the explanation. I am not criticizing Symantec  on this matter, It’s really not a Symantec issue but a lack of patience issue on my part. Truth be told,I’ll be the first to admit that I was harsh with my initial complaints about the issues Norton has been having with FF. Symantec’s support on this matter is superior to the support offered by any of the other security suites out there.

Cheers

Re: Received NIS 2011 update to 18.6.0.29

tyler,

Thanks for the comments -- it just goes to show how Norton can't in-house test against every variable out there!

I'm using IE8 since I went to WIN 7 when it was released and although I had a period of freezes the Event Viewer never pinned those on anything Norton related and they disappeared after some Windows Updates. With NIS continuously in use on that system I haven't had any ot the other problems although I have to say I can't compare download speeds with FF since I've not used it but what I get is close to what the cable service offers .....

Hi gablegal,

This is not unusual. I also have not received it on one of my computers.

Once Symantec is satisfied with their telemetry you will receive the patch via live update.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

Still waiting here also.

Once I've got it I can install FF 4.0.1 again.

Lets be careful out there !

Car825,

you noted:

My version of NIS11 is English.  It's the OEM version that came preinstalled on my HP laptop

Just FYI... A majority of the OEM versions actually come loaded with multi language versions of NIS.  So while you may have your version set to English (usually based on OS local settings) it may still contain the other languages.

Many of the OEM's do this so that they don't have to pre install different products to every different language they sell in.

The NIS directory on my laptop does have sub-directories for other languages, so I do have the multi-language version.  Will my system be updated when the English version becomes available to all customers, or will it be sometime after that?
