Re: Received NIS 2011 update to 18.6.0.29

The second part of the update will install ~4 mb in C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\MUI\18.6.0.29 folder. They are the language related files which are unique for any language. I think that language related file will be deployed in max 2-3 days.

Re: Received NIS 2011 update to 18.6.0.29

I have the OEM version of NIS11 that was preinstalled on my HP laptop. It is English, but I believe it has multi language support.  When should I expect to be fully updated?  I did get the first part of the update back on 5/2/11.

Re: Received NIS 2011 update to 18.6.0.29

I had a 60 day trial version of NIS which I activated back in December and experienced similar delays in the update to 18.5, it was some weeks after the full release before I received the update despite the presence of the 18.5 folder.

Was seeing the same thing with the update to 18.6, so today reinstalled the English version and received the update immediately.

Is auto update smart enough to recognize that a _full background_ scan is in progress (runs for quite a while) and to delay the update until after it is finished?  i.e., does it look for this?

Because if not, it seems like it could be disastrous.  (Deleting and replacing open/active files)

Joen,

Yes it is smart enough and yes we test just that scenario because as you noted if it went bad there it could indeed be disastrous.

Re: Received NIS 2011 update to 18.6.0.29

joen,

Remember after the second part is downloaded by liveupdate, you have to reboot. During this reboot the update is installed, not earlier. Before reboot Norton still uses the 18,5 libs, after the 18.6 ones.

Some reboots later the old libs will be deleted.

[ Edited ]

I have a preinstalled version of NIS 2011 installed on my laptop. Version is still 18.5.0.125

Is there a direct link to the new version so I can do an uninstall & reinstall?

Hi glf861,

Please see the following post.

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/18-6-0-29-Direct-download-link-please...

Please be aware that it is recommended to wait for the standard URL but if you really need it now, the above post has the link. Also be aware that the link you see there is for the English version.

Best wishes.

Allen
