The norton toolbar is not compatible with Sharepoints datasheet view. It causes errors when editing a rich text box and inserts black highlighting. We need to completely remove the toolbar from IE. Merely disabling the toolbar from the add-ons menu does not work. Please let us know how we can do this, otherwise, our entire organization will have to move off of Norton.

Let us know the exact version of Norton program you are using(You can find it from Help & Support > About). If possible, provide some of the screenshots of errors caused while using Sharepoint Datasheet view. You can try disabling the entire Browser Protection, Phishing Protection and Identity Safe for temporary purpose, and check for the problem.

So, my version is 184.108.40.206. Here is a shot of the error. The norton toolbar causes a conflict with the sharepoint/office dll that controls the datasheet. After typing text in a rich text box, it highlights the text in black.I had to manually change the ones that are not highlighted in black.

Going in and just disabling the add-in from the IE menu does not work. I am posting this because I want to know how to remove the dll or remove the reference to the toolbar dll once and for all without having to remove Norton all together.
Here is what I find works to get rid of the toolbar from IE (I am assuming you are using NIS2010)
Boot your PC to safe mode
Open windows Explorer and browse to
C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\220.127.116.11
Rename to CoIEPlg.dll file to smething else (I added .old to the file name)
The Firefox equivalent is CoFFPgn.dll
Reboot your PC in normal mode and the Norton Toolbar should no longer load. Please then check to see if your issue is resolved and let us know the result.

Apologies there was a misunderstanding. When you said you need to remove not just the toolbar but "completely remove the toolbar ", I assumed that this is what you had done. I believe what you are now indicating is your desire to do so because you feel that disabling the toolbar is insufficient.
However, with respect, may I suggest that you are making a presumption in that you are presuming that the problem you are experiencing is because of the "toolbar" whereas it could quite easily be a consequence of another function within Norton, which is why yogesh_mohan proposals are entirely appropriate and should be tried.
As I write this I see on my 2nd screen that mdturner has just responded with another proposal to rename a file that might be "confidential IE plugin" (a guess) anyway, I hope that that works for you. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

This solution actually works and takes care of the problem, but you should actually keep the old name of the file and blank the contents else Norton replaces the file on reboot.
This is a big issue that Norton needs to address for the large group of people that are using Sharepoint and have Norton installed on their computers. Our entire organization has this issue, and it might be easier to remove Norton rather than trying to implement this work around. At the very least, Norton needs to make available the option of completely removing the toolbar.
