Renew NIS 2011 with NIS 2012 using a disc versio

Hi am asking for some advice please.

I have NIS 2011 - will expire in about a week. I purchased this through the Norton website but for 2012 the NIS 2012 on a disc was a lot cheaper than renewing.

Please can you tell me if & how I should uninstall NIS 2011 before installing the disc for NIS 2012 ?

Do I just use the uninstall download tool and follow the instructions, then load in the NIS 2012 disc ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Renew NIS 2011 with NIS 2012 using a disc versio

Hi angie2601,

You should first sign in to your Norton Account and opt out of auto renewal so that you don't get charged again.

First,  back up your Identity Safe data.  Instructions are here.  -  https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&do...

As you can upgrade to NIS 12 any time for free while you have a current subscription,  you can do this now if you like.  Open NIS > Support (Top right corner) > Check For New Version.  You will be guided through to steps to upgrade to NIS 12.

When you only have one or two days remaining,  simply open NIS and click on renew and enter your new key.  There will be no need to use your disc.

I hope this helps.

Dave.

Re: Renew NIS 2011 with NIS 2012 using a disc version

I recommend that you click here:  http://us.norton.com/support/redirects/redirect.jsp?type=nis12 and download the 19.5 version of NIS2012.  It is almost certainly newer than the version on your disk.  You can run it and it will remove NIS 2011 & install 2012 using your existing product code for NIS 2011.  Alternatively, you can remove NIS 2011 manually with Windows and then run the 2012 file, but this method will require you to put in more (or alll  of the changes you made to NIS' default settings.  You probably will have to enter a product code with this method.

Some "purist" will recommend the second method,  but the first accomplishes the same thing with less effort.

You can either continue to use your 2011 product code until there is one day left of your subscription or use the 2012 code right away.  It is simple to change -- just click on the "renew" next to the section where the number of subscription days are shown. Enter your new code and follow the few prompts.
