I was renewing my product just now and noticed that the price was $70, but the same product (NIS 2012 for 3 PC's) is offered for $35 on the Symantec site. Is there no way to take advantage of the lower price for a loyal customer other than to let the product run out-uninstall, and then reinstall the new one? Please don't tell me there is a penalty for being "loyal", this is quite backwards...

Hi kdickinson123,
No need to uninstall / reinstall. Just find the same product for the best price and buy it. Then simply click the "Renew" link in your installed program, click on "I have a key or code to enter" and enter the product key from the newly purchased product. Just make sure you that you wait until a day or two before the old subscription expires because you will lose any remaining days under the old license.

Wow, you rock! That makes perfect sense. It's a shame that the Norton rep I chatted with online during my shopping experience wasn't knowledgible enough to give me that information. Now if I can just survive the nag screens between now and my expiration!

Ken -- Did you end up buying it on the Norton website, or did you buy copy cheaply retail or on the internet? If on the Norton website did you have any difficulty in finding your way back to the offer you had seen before?
I'm interested because I have had trouble in back tracking once I left a page with a good price!

I bought the 3User download version on Amazon for $30 and received the license key along with the install file being downloaded to my PC (which I didn't need). I entered the product key just as others have explained here and then deleted the downloaded file.
Easy! ![]()

Kudos to that nikki. I will never understand why people think a trial version is different then any other version. Since when is a trial versions of NIS a stripped down version? Also if NIS is already installed on your pc why would you need to remove it to install another NIS of the same version? My laptop came with a free 60 day trial of NIS 2012. When it was getting close the the expirattion date I bought the downloadable version of NIS 2012 off Amazon for $25. That is a 3 user license. I never downloaded it cause they emailed my key. I just simply copied and pasted the key I bought from Amazon into my NIS 2012 which came preinstalelled and presto.60 day trial is now a 365 day NIS 2012. Its that easy.

Agreed. Now that I have the 3User license, I'll be working on installing the "trial version" on NIS 2012 on my WinXP desktop today and using that same product key.
A year from now when this key is about to expire, I'll again look for the best deal available and buy a new key.

Thanks for the information -- I wondered if you had gotten it from Norton since getting back to a good price (and they do special offers from time to time so that I've seen $19.99 for NIS on the Norton website and not just in the stores after rebates.

I did get the same file installed on my WinXP desktop this morning. When it asked for the Product Key, I simply copy/pasted it into the field and it registered with no problem. When I log into my Norton account online, it shows I have 1 Available Install remaining (2 of the 3 are installed).

nikki,
Glad it worked out OK ... for the third installation, when the time comes, all you need do is from the third PC log onto your MyNortonAccount on line using the same email address and password and then use the Download button alongside the entry.
That will download the current version of NIS already activated so you won't have to bother about the KEY ... It will be pretty much uptodate but it's always best to run LiveUpdate a couple of times with a restart inbetween to update definitions etc.
