Renewal Ques

I checked my subscription status yesterday and currently have 58 days remaining on my NIS 2010 product. ( 3 user license.) I am using the license on 2 PC's. When it comes time to renew does the renewal fee cover both PC's or just one? Just curious. I also got an email from Symantec yesterday offering a free upgrade to NIS 2011. If I go with the upgrade, after updating my primary PC what is the procedure for applying the upgrade to my second PC? I have had no problems with the 2010 product on both PC's. Thanks for your assistance.

at first upgrade your product from here

http://updatecenter.norton.com/

then apply your activation code like previous version..norton will detect autometically..

and if it is a same license it will cover 3 user or you can buy separate user i mean 1+1+1=3 user :)

regards

Hi Aviator327,

If you renew through NIS Express Renewal, then Express Renewal again on the next window you will automatically be purchasing a subscription renewal for the same number of computers that your license already covers. If you purchase NIS from another retailer then you just need to make sure and select one which covers the number of computers you need.

In the meantime you can simply download and install NIS 2011 over the top of your current NIS 2010 as long as it is currently working well for you. Please see the procedure below.

You can upgrade to NIS 2011 any time you choose. This is independant of the subsription. You can download the full version of NIS 2011 from here.

You can save this on a USB flash drive or other external drive and use this on to install on subsequent computers so that you only have to download this once.

The link to the full version is for the English version, please let me know if you need a different language and I will provide an alternate link. If NIS 2010 is working properly for you then you can simply install 2011 over the top of your current installation and it will automatically take care of the upgrade and removal of the old version for you.

When you upgrade to 2011 it will automatically pick up your old product key and migrate things like Identity Safe for you as well as picking up your subscription status. As a precaution you can back up Identity Safe manually by following the procedure here.

You can also make note of your product key which you can find in your Norton Account.

For renewing your subscription you can either click on Express Renewal (NIS 2010) or Renew (NIS 2011) and then click on Express Renewal again on the next window. This option will allow you to purchase your subscription renewal directly from Symantec and will add on the number of days to your subscription automatically.

You also have the option of looking for a better deal through another online vendor or even purchasing from a store to renew your subscription, just be careful to purchase a 3 computer version since you have 3 computers. If you choose this option you can enter the new product key in the box provided after clicking on Express Renewal the first time. Please be aware that if you use this option it will reset your subscription to 366 (for a 1 year renewal) and you will lose any days remaining on your current subscription. If this occurs you can visit Customer Service and they will add back on the lost days for you.

It is therefore recommended that you wait until the last 1-2 days before your current subscription expires before entering the new product key so that you don't lose any days initially.

Also be aware that you do NOT need to reinstall NIS when you enter a new product key, you would just enter it and renew the subscription.

After you install NIS 2011, please be sure to run Live Update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.

Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen

Aviator,

I got the same email yesterday and being of a curious disposition although I have 2011 insntalled already I followed the link in the message and it uses a Download Manager to carry out the update, as does Update Center.

Since you have more than one PC it would be better to use the link below to get a single file of the 2011 installation exe and save it on your PC.

New NIS 2011:

Click on this link -- NIS 2011  This will download a single file of around 90MB which you should save on your hard drive where you can use it again if necessary -- Do not select Run but use Save when asked and remember where you put it!

Then you can run it to update your PC and it should automatically take over the key that has 58 days left. If you are running VISTA (groan) or Windows 7 (good show) I'd recommend Right Mouse Click on the downloaded file and selecting Run as Administrator to begin the installation.

By using that file you can copy it over to the other PC -- over you network or on a thumbdrive -- and install it without having to download again. Again same recommendation about Run as Administrator (which is not available in XP).

Note that whichever way you install NIS 2011 you should run Live Update as soon as it finishes installing in order to get some fixes and updated definitions -- this can be nearly as much as the initial download so I hope both PCs are on  broadband for the internet.

Run LiveUpdate with a boot between until it tells you that you are fully uptodate -- then you are ready to relax with the latest version.

With only 58 days left on your subscription start looking around soon for cheap offers for NIS 2010 or 2011 from reputable sources since you can buy a new 3PC copy at a low price and not use the KEY until a day or so before the old subscription expires. Either KEY will activate the new 2011 version!

If there are any residual questions due to your specific situation please ask ... preferably before than after!

huwyngr, Just want to verify that clicking the above link, NIS-ESD-18-1-0-37-EN.exe will generate the 90mb installation file for 2011 that I can save for installation for the 2nd PC. Thanks.

Hi Aviator327,

Yes, please see my earlier post. This is the full version download for NIS 2011. Save the file to your desktop or other location on your hard drive where you can find it easily.

This can be used to install on as many computers as you want.

Best wishes.

Aviator --

How about NIS-ESD-18-1-0-37-EN.exe copy pasted from the Save As box ? <g>

BTW That is the USA/CAN version which I understand is also used in the UK and Australia.  If you are elsewhere or want a different language version then you need to ask for the modified link for your need.

Re: Renewal Ques

Hello Aviator

You can only install NIS on 3 computers if you have the 3 computer license. You can not install it on as many computers as you want., but you can reinstall it on the same computer if need occurs for that. I just wanted to clarify that.

You can update to the newer version at any time during your subscription period for free. If you try to update it after your subscription ends, then you will get a trial version and will have to enter a new key either bought from a retail store or online store or thru Norton. You can usually find a cheaper version in a store. You can also buy the 2010 version again and use the new key to activate the 2011 product and you don't have to install the 2010 product again either.

Re: Renewal Ques

Thanks guys. I appreciate the assistance from everyone. Just downloaded the file (91.2MB) and saved it to my HD. Will make a copy onto a CD for installation on the other PC. I reckon I will wait until about a week before my current subscription expires and do the upgrade. Thanks again.

Re: Renewal Ques

Hello Aviator

Please remember that by the time your subscription is going to end, you will have to purchase a new subscription or boxed version so that you will have a new key to enter. Once the subscription ends, the program stops working unless you have a new key to enter into the product.
