Reputation Scan

 Hi

When I perform a full reputation scan, NIS2011 detects a bad file named "unicows.dll". This file is a part of free software "OpenOffice.Org" and located in :

C:/Program Files/OpenOffice.Org3/URE/bin/unicows.dll

Norton File Insight recognizes it as untrustworthy.

However, NIS won`t quarantine the file and this time recognizes it as good file that can`t be quarantined!

How can I fix this issue?

Thanks

Re: Reputation Scan

You can restore incorrectly flagged file from quarantine and put further exclusions on it thus it shouldn't be detected as malware in the future.

Re: Reputation Scan

azghmed, thanks for bringing to my attention the tool, reputation scan. I did a file insight scan, and sure enough, it was identified as "bad" way back in January, although I'd never received notice of any kind. In any event, this file has never been used by my OpenOffice. I've had this Suite for sometime, but I've never really used the other components other than the spreadsheet and word processing. Oddly, in the folder you cited, it's the ONLY file that's older than 2010 birthyear (2003). Depending on your usage of OpenOffice, rename this file by appending to the front or end of the name something like-- bad. Run the program and see if the file is missed or not. I've done so and nothing seems amiss. By the way, LibreOffice, which is a breakaway from OpenOffice (whose management changed business philosophy), performs the same functions under different management and retained business philosophy. Its folder does not contain the "bad" file. My conclusion is the file wasn't properly cleaned up and disposed of by the OpenOffice crew. If this post ends up in a difficult to read continuous lines of words, I really tried, with indents and paragraphs. FF4.
