Re: SETPOIN.EXE & Unauthorized Access Blocked(Access Process Data)

Hello Eyal_Oren

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

I get the same thing as you do. It just means that Norton is protecting itself and that the mouse tried to get too close to the Norton product. This seems to happen with every Logitech mouse, but it is nothing to worry about. I don't know why they mark it as a medium risk either when if they are going to do this, it should be listed as a low risk in my opinion. I guess for some reason Norton just doesn't like Logitech mice.  I get this alert all the time and have with different logistech mice and everytime there is an update to the driver.

But once again, it is nothing to worry about.

Hello Eyal_Oren

I'm glad I could help put your mind at ease a little about this situation. Thank you for marking the thread as solved so that others who have Logitech mice will feel a little more at ease also.

Actually that is NOT TRUE. NIS2012 not only blocks setpoint.exe but causues problems with assigning keystrokes to various programs. Indeed it sometimes also block Logitech from running updates. I notice Symantec has been aware of this issue since at least 2008. Refer to this http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Mice-Software/Norton-2009-and-Setpoint-problem/td-p/259854

If it does, it is unrelated to the Unauthorized Access Blocked messages.

Re: SETPOIN.EXE & Unauthorized Access Blocked(Access Process Data)

I got so fed up with seeing so many blocks in the Norton logs that I uninstalled the setpoint software altogether. Yes, a bit drastic I know but I thought that my mouse would work better after installing Setpoint but it made very little difference to the basic settings. Logitech install so much unnecessary stuff with the Setpoint software so that it covers as many versions as possible. OK if you want all the bells and whistles for your mouse but the default Windows HID-Compliant mouse driver works perfectly for my requirements and no more software conflicts or logs. I shall however have to think carefully about what mouse I purchase in future.

I had the same problem only worse with the Roboform task bar icon and blocked that from installing to stop it creating hundreds of Norton logs. They may well be innocent but make a complete mess of the Norton logs when you are searching for something. I even asked Roboform to do something about it but they took no notice. Unfortunately I have no toleration when it comes to this sort of thing and take drastic action.
