Re: SONAR Problem -- Error 3039,69638

Hi,

I have been having this SONAR error with NIS 2011 and N360 V5 for months. Thankfully, I finally stumbled onto this thread. I also have a multi boot system with several versions of Windows and Norton products. The only solution that works for me is to use the NIS 2012 beta (version19.1.0.28). Unfortunately, that program has just ended.I don't know if SONAR was even turned on internally in the Beta.

Has anyone experienced this SONAR error using the new NIS 2012? Before I upgrade, I'd like to have some confidence that it has a fix for this problem.

Bill

Re: SONAR Problem -- Error 3039,69638

I've started having this same error within about the first 15 minutes or so after a reboot since first installing Norton 360 v5 yesterday. Prior to this I had Norton AntiVirus 2012 for about a week, before contacting Symantec to switch to 360.

I have run Live Update (and rebooted when required to do so) until it stated I am up-to-date. I have also tried uninstalling and re-installing using the Norton Uninstall Tool, but the problem persists.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on a new i7-2600k system built in June.

This is really annoying, as I got Norton to protect me from problem, not cause them.

Do you have any removable drives installed on your system? If so and you remove them prior to starting your system does the problem go away?

Are you suggesting I remove them prior to reboot or startup and then re-connect them once the system is up and running in Windows? Just tried (I only have one removable drive I tend to use). Will report back once the system has been up a while.

-edit-

Nope, didn't work. SONAR just died on me.

Trying again, thins time I'm not plugging in my removable drive at all (though this would not be a long-term resolution for me).

-edit 2-

Nope again. SONAR just died on me again, about 15 minutes after my reboot. No removable devices connected at all from the moment or reboot until SONAR died.

saltorio, thanks for the update. We are aware of a couple of issues that are typical related to removable drives but apparently your issue is different. The problem is still being researched.

Have you tried using Norton Removal Tool on all your partitions at the same time?  Note that NRT has different versions.  Make sure to the use the right version for each partitions's product.

Sorry, could you elaborate? I only have one partition on my system drive (an Intel 320 series 120GB SSD in case that makes a difference). I do have 4 other hard drives installed in the system, but none contain any other operating systems.

Re: SONAR Problem -- Error 3039,69638

The issue may have to do with nVidia's GeForce display drivers.

I recently had to send my GeForce GTX 570 back to EVGA for RMA due to hardware issues I was having. In the mean time, I got by using my old Radeon X1900 XT running on the Catalyst 10-2 drivers (the latest available for that card). Yesterday I noticed that Norton 360 was reporting that everything was working A-OK, even after the PC having been running for days.

Today I got my replacement for the GTX 570. I installed it, and installed the nVidia 280.26 drivers, and within 10 minutes of my PC booting up Norton had once again reported an Error 3039,69638 and is now listing me "At Risk" once again.

It could be coincidence, but maybe not.

Re: SONAR Problem -- Error 3039,69638

It might be ..... but I just had it earlier today on my test Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit installation of N 360 V5 and that has:

ATI Radeon HD 3300 Graphics
 GPU RS780D
 Device ID 1002-9614
 Subvendor ASUStek Computer Inc (1043)
 Technology 55 nm
 Die Size 64 nmІ
 Release Date Aug 06, 2008
 DirectX Support 10.0
 DirectX Shader Model 4.0
 OpenGL Support 2.0
 Bios Core Clock 500.00
 Bios Mem Clock 667.00
 Driver atiumdag.dll
 Driver version 8.14.10.791
 ROPs 4
 Shaders 40 unified
 Memory Type System
 Pixel Fillrate 2.0 GPixels/s
 Texture Fillrate 2.0 GTexels/s

With the oneclick failure to fix I took the suggested Norton Remove & Reinstall route and it left me with a reinstalled updated N 360 (although it took an extremely long time to do anything involving downloads so there must have been some bottleneck at the Norton Servers) and no error .....

But I'll check in again tomorrow a few times and see if it comes back.

Re: SONAR Problem -- Error 3039,69638

I had this issue with Norton 360 v5. I was able to solve it by following the instructions in this post, which solved the problem for an NIS installation. I did a little extra, which may or may not have helped, I'll never know for sure: I disconnected two external USB hard drives to start out, then, following the instructions step by step, I ran the Norton Removal Tool twice at the appropriate point per the instructions, and I rebooted the system twice back to back after the second NRT run (ran NRT the first time, rebooted, ran it a second time, rebooted, logged on to Win Vista, rebooted one more time). To reinstall N360, I used the actual Installer Program, not the N360 Download Manager & Installer program. See a list of the 4 N360 v5 installers below, and download the one that is appropriate for your installation.

In my case, the error used to occur about 10 to 20 minutes after system bootup. It's now been about 24 hours without the error cropping up, so I feel pretty confident that the problem is in fact solved for me. :smileyhappy: I hope this will also work for everybody out there who's dealing with this annoying issue!
