Schedule scans in NIS 2012?

Can't for the life of me figure out how to specify when I want NIS to do a full system scan. Under settings / computer scan, there's only one relevant option: "full system scan." It has a drop down menu that allows you to choose weekly vs. monthly vs. quarterly. But where can I specify when I want it to do a weekly scan?

Go to "Scan Now" (Main Menu) custom scan, to set it up. ;)

Boy, that's counterintuitive. In fact, even stranger, you don't go into "Full scan" to schedule a full scan; you go into "Custom scan" to schedule a full scan. And you can't change the settings in Settings. Anyway, thanks.

How is this possibly solved?  The product does not offer the same features as 2011!

The solution is to edit the present settings for the idle time full system scan.

Click on Scan Now and then Custom Scan.

Look across the Full System Scan row and click the pencil in the Edit Scan column.

The Scan Schedule tab shows the options to change or set a schedule.

Re: Schedule scans in NIS 2012?

The fact that you need to go through this many steps to create a schedule is ridiculous.  As is the fact the "scheduler" is not integrated with Windows 7 and doesn't even support the wake feature that all major anti-virus products support.  They might as well have deleted scheduling functionality altogether since they offer very little flexibility and no true integration with the operating system.

Totally unintuitive and there is also a major missing feature: It's no longer possible to schedule a scan on more than one day (but less than 7) per week (like Monday and Thursday for example). Why was that feature removed?

I agree on the non-intuitiveness. Still no way to set a time, same as no schedule. "New and improved" isn't so much.

Hmm NONE or the edit tools work. Imagine MAD face here<      >     o_0

Re: Schedule scans in NIS 2012?

Hello All

The thinking behind the weekly scans is that now Norton's feels that doing a scan is enough to do it once a month which I believe is now the default setting. The Idle quick scans run each time there is a new antivirus definition update released and the Idle Quick Scan is more thorough now also which is why it takes a little longer to run now. Norton feels that since the scan is now run by default once a month, it isn't as important to be able to schedule that scan. I think that is the thinking behind all of this. Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

Re: Schedule scans in NIS 2012?

I can't agree to quicks scans being enough. The really bad items hide really well and need a full scan if you happen on one. As a GFX image editor I go to Google images often and many of them are poisoned. sometime the page will open and keep refreshing to the point there will be 5-6 scroll bars in the window.

Any security product need to be configurable to the user's needs, not what the vendor thinks is adequate. Will NIS2013 have no settings available if Norton considers they aren't needed?
