I have a Search engine redirect virus. I have read here that each one of these needs to be handled individually. I am running Norton Internet Security. When redirected it goes to different places, one being The smart result. This is on Firefox. So far it isn't on IE yet. Thanks for the help.

Try a full system scan in Safe Mode.
I would also suggest a full system scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_
If these do not solve your issue, you should sign up at one of the free malware removal sites below and stay with them until your system is clean.

Since the redirect virus (rootkit actually) is part of the TDSS family I would try Norton's Fix TDSS tool, then Power Eraser, HitmanPro and TDSS Killer
Ignore this above.
Why, It is unknown what is causing it, if it is a new subsystem or BCD variant, as users and even early on have found out these and other families evolve and at times using the tools can cause the "Non Booting Windows" problem.
