Re: Site Safety Symbols Have Disappeared

If anyone still having trouble using IE 8,    not showing Safe Web Icons, try opening    Tools  --  Compatibility Settings, in the browser,  and tick the box at bottom for, 'Display all Websites in Compatibility View'.

Okay, since the mods are IGNORING a similar problem I am having with 360 in the 360 section, I am going to start posting here.  Here's a summery of whats happened with my NORTON SAFEWEB icons not working with google -

I'm not using any third party search engine, nor do I have multiple browsers on.  I only ever use IE8 and do my searches straight from Google.com.  I tried the compatibility thing, even making it so that IE8 will show all websites in compatibility mode, and none of it works!  I made sure SAFEWEB is enabled in my NORTON toolbar.  I ran a MALWARBYTES quick scan and it found 6 infected obejects.  Here is the log of the scan -

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.44
Database version: 3686
Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702

After it deleted the malware and restarted my machine, I ran a second scan on MALWAREBYTES and this time it came up with nothing.  But I am still not seeing any SAFEWEB icons in my Google searches.  I did a full system scan from both MALWAREBYTES and NORTON and no threats poped up except for a cookie.

Oh and please don't just take this post and merge it there just like you did before!  That's about the only response I got from you Symantec guys today.

At least tell me if it's safe for me to browser the web and purchase stuff online.  I wanna know how severe this problem is.

Hi Gravel-

This issue appears to be limited to our UI display in Google search result pages.  The security features of your product, particularly intrusion protection / browser protection should not be affected by this GUI issue.

If you are feeling uncertain about particular sites, maybe for shopping or providing personal information, please consider entering the site URL on the Norton Safe Web page in the "is this site safe?" box; it will display the same type of rating information as the result markups.

You could also consider temporarily switching search engines while the problem is being addressed.

Re: Site Safety Symbols Have Disappeared

Interesting, now I'm seeing SAFTEYWEB icons come and go.  If I continue clicking on links in Google, the icons eventually return and seem to stay until I close the browser and restart it again.  Perhaps it's a sign that things are getting fixed?

Hi Gravel,

I would like to say that your not alone on this problem,I myself also still have the same problem as yourself.

Say I  have a page already open in GOOGLE (.CO.UK)and then open another tab do a search then click on a safe web page "as site safety symbols are showing" then click back a page all  of a sudden  safety symbols have gone.

AT the moment I am in contact with MJP   Symantec Employee about this to try and get this fixed.

Thanks Stoneheart

Can I add, I am having same problem on multiple machines (IE8, XP SP3 NIS2010 - Goolge search).

I did notice that if I go to google.co.uk home page & do search - No icons.

If I do a google search (google.com) from Microsoft search Toolbar - Icons work OK!

Can't directly try google.com home page as it auto redirects to google.co.uk

Hope this helps - and can I suggest this thread is not marked as "Solved" please.

Hi pd123, I think the more information that there is on this problem the better chance it maybe resolved.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Stoneheart, your last post must have gone up while I was doing mine - very similar situation, with the location problem by the looks of it.
