Since upgrading to NIS 2010 I have found that Site Safety doesn't work when running either IE8 or Firefox 3.5.2 under Sandboxie. The Site Safety icon is shown in black with a question mark in it This was never a problem with NIS 2009.

Site Safety works ok if either browser is run without using Sandboxie.  Has anyone else found this problem yet?

If there is some option to temporarily drop all restrictions in Sandboxie, can you try that and report if Site Safety works?

Our broswer suport does not operate properly within Sandboxie. Sandboxie is intended to isolate applications, which prevents the piece of Norton running in the browser from talking to the Norton infrastructure. We considered trying to find away around Sandboxie, but that would defeat the purpose of running Sandboxie. In this case Sandboxie is doing what it's suppose to be doing, and hopefully giving you an extra layer of protection.

The down side is that Sandboxie will do nothing to protect you from phishing pages, so the disabling of our service will leave you more vulnerable. In the short term, this is an unavoidable limitation.

We will put our thinking caps on and see if we can come up with a solution for a future version or update

How do you use Sandboxie? Do you run just your browser through Sandboxie? Or other applications as well?

Is this new with NIS10

I've been running  NIS09 with Sandboxie since Sandboxie was updated to be compatible with NIS09 almost a year now with no issues.  I know Norton Anti Phishing is working because Norton disables FF Block web forgeries.  Intrusion attempts are blocked with popup notice box.  Safeweb and Safesearch and Toolbar and IPS all work with FF sandboxie.

Is this new with NIS10

The Sandboxie forum has message relaying compatibility issue of new NIS10 and Sandboxie... 

Is it possible compatibility will come from Sandboxie side as it has with NIS09.

Or, is NIS10 build such that No browser sandbox will work with 10.

Need to know...don't want to give up Sandboxie or Norton 

Have been happily running both in perfect harmony

As I mentioned in my post, I too ran Sandboxie with NIS 2009 with no problems whatsoever. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the Sandboxie forum, I didn't know there was one but I'll keep an eye on it from now on for any possible solutions or program updates.

GavinA  -  Yes, I only run browsers under Sandboxie so I don't know whether any other applications have problems with it.

Don't recall what Sandboxie ver update it was...but about 10 months ago approx. Sandboxie ver update became fully compatible with NIS 2009. 

The compatibility message @ Sandboxie Forum for NIS 2010 has yet to be answered...see Forum > Open Issues.   Maybe you can add your interest in a fix.  Couldn't hurt!

You're right! Just installed Sandboxie for myself with Norton 2009, and indeed it used to work. Give us a little time to dig in to this.

Sandboxie does have a few known apps that will not work with Sandboxie.

  The author thought enough of NIS to code Sandboxie for NIS09.  

     The resources of Sandboxie are at best on a budget. 

        Over the life of Sandboxie the author with limited resources has faced some of the same compatibility challenges that Symantec had to overcome with significantly greater resources.  

I recall author had to work magic to code Sandboxie for Vista UAC.

Hopefully, the author will find the resources to code Sandboxie for 10.

Wow, thanks, that's exactly what we needed to know. We'll stop looking for what we might have changed. I'll try to reach out to Sandboxie. Sounds like they'll be interested in working with us.

I really love the new NIS 2010.  It would be really great if it could work with Sandboxie.  Thank you to Symantec for trying to help.  I have friends and family who have a stack of NIS license expiring in about a month and we will definitely be renewing.
