Smart Firewall Program Control Question ?

[ Edited ]
All programs in NIS 2010 Smart Firewall Program Control are set to "Auto" by default. What is the difference between "Auto" and "Allow" setting? Are both the same?

When you are in the program control settings section, click on the Help Menu.  In the "1000 words" mode, we have:

So, "auto" leaves up to the software to decide, from one moment to the next (although how they express that is not exactly the very model of lucidity - a lacking in English skills that Symantec is not yet willing to own up to and which is part of an ongoing debate twixt myself and them).

Hi ProTruckDriver,

The Auto function, if I have understood the concept correctly, makes the decisions automatically; in order to allow access, your manual intervention is needed to set the option to "allow", in which case, the firewall no longer decides automatically about the access status for a certain program, but has to concede to you :-)

Hope this helps.
