Thanks. Well it is really the ERR lines that I am interested in because they arise before and after the LUD server issue.
If we take your first posted line
10:41:32.984 ERR - Unable to move file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}
it can be compared with that from mdturner (who is on Vista)
15:45:26.314 ERR - Unable to copy file C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85E
and mine
21:58:45.000 ERR - Unable to move file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}
different but we all have problems.
So it seems then that it is not XP specific, and not UK dependent but some users do not have errors.
The files not found are I suggest different issues and I believe related to the patches but I am not concerned about these at this time.
Yes I have taken into account Tony's msg but the messages appeared before the LUD and after, so I dont think it is related.
If you have any friendly Norton staff perhaps you could convince them to take a look here.
In case anyone is wondering why I am bothering if NIS reports no problem when it runs the Liveupdate, the answers are as follows:
1. the fact that NIS reports no issue does not mean there is no issue. This can be demonstrated better with Norton 360 which variously reports no problem even when no definitions are updated for 90 days or during the LUD server issue, for 3hours. But the log.lue is plagued with errors. BTW this was the argument I got from tech support.
2. In tests, part of which were previously published by me, I can demonstrate that this error is slowing down the liveupdate process.
3. I believe a resolution to this problem may assist Symantec in its patches and live update server.

Running XP Pro service pack 3 NIS 2009 16.7.2.10 Israel
No ERR for the last 2 weeks at all 3 machine

To all:
I updated just one machine on 16.7.2.11 to NIS 2010 17.0.0.136 and the ERR problem has gone away. Not that that is a solution. If anyone who had the problem is updating to NIS 2010 then please check for ERR afterwards and kindly advise please.

To ALL.
This thread is about NIS 2009 only. I have upgraded another machine to NIS 2010 and the ERR disappeared off that machine too.
I just wanted to let you know that a Symantec employee has seen the log.lue issue and whilst he considers it "housekeeping" he promised to investigate and advise.

I just want to thank you all for your contributions. Symantec is now aware of this issue but does not consider it a priority over other issues it is experiencing and accordingly a resolution is not imminent. Moreover, my own tests show that the problem goes away after upgrading to NIS 2010.
As it happens NIS 2010 introduces new "housekeeping issues" which I dont think are very good. To these the response received was that they go away when NIS2010 is uninstalled. I am sure you are equally comforted .
Lastly, I would welcome any users who would be prepared to check out and comment upon this thread please (particularly XP users) with IE8. click here

only see INF after all timestamps
