What is your Version Number?

FR, I've had the new version for a couple days now (16.1.0.33) and still get the error.

I got patched Nov 15.

16.1.0.3.3 seems to be quicker and more responsive.

I am sure there are some bug fix.  But was not able to experience the fix.

Thank you

I'm glad the new version is fixing those annoying bugs.

I'd like to address what some people might be seeing with the boot time. I double checked our internal boot time performance measurements and they are nearly identical to the original 16.0.0.125 release. I suspect what people are seeing is the Windows Prefetcher being unoptimized since our new files are installed in a different directory.

After installing any software that loads at boot time (not just Norton) Windows will run slower for a few days. Windows analyzes which files load at boot time and optimizes the load order. It only does this every few days though. To manually run that optimization do the steps below:

  1. Click on the Start menu and select Run.
  2. Type Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks in the text box and select OK.

More details:

Microsoft benchmarking guidelines

I hope this helps.

Re: Those who HAVE recieved 16.1.0.33 post here, IS it working for you,GIVE feedback

I have the new build and am running Vista 32bit Ultimate version.  The issue not resolved with the new build is the system freeze during "idle time".  I am still getting sporadic system freezes during "idle time" that requires a power button reboot to get  the system running again.  Is anyone else with the new build experiencing this issue with NIS2009?  If it is not resolved shortly, I will be reverting to NIS 2008 until Symantec can get the issues resolved with NIS2009.  While this happens with any new build, I agree with several posters on this forum-Symantec released NIS2009 early with known bugs and is playing catchup.  I have used Norton products for years-this is the buggiest product to date.

I got the upgrade a few days ago and seems to be running faster. I never had any issues with the older version. :smileyvery-happy:

I would tend to disagree with you, I think that in 99% of cases the problem is with Windows installations that are corrupted, tweaked or otherwise 'unhealthy'.

What is certain is that NIS 2009 is the least buggy of Norton products. :p

Speakiing of bugs-have you tried to install the NIS2009 add on pack to the new release?  The add on pack downloads then tries to install and then you get an error message that this version of add on pack is incompatable with the version of NIS2009 (new build).  This is another example of no follow through on symantec's part to ensure that the customer has a good experience with their product.  NIS2008 didn't have these issues.  I feel sorry for those individuals that are new to computing and experiencing these types of issues.  I don't mean to sound negative, however Norton's loyal and longtime customers deserve better than this type of treatment on a new release.

Hi Jmorri,

I don't use the Add On Pack, however I just tried to install it and I can confirm your findings.

I'll bring this to the attention of a Symantec employee.

Sorry about the problem, but good catch on your part.

Re: Those who HAVE recieved 16.1.0.33 post here, IS it working for you,GIVE feedback

I'm under the impression that I've seen a message here from a Symantec Staffer that there is no add-on pack for NIS2009!

AntiSPam and Parental Controls that were in the addon pack for earlier versions are part of NIS2009 itself:

  • Antispam
  • Parental Controls & confidential information blocking
  •

But I certainly see a link to it on the NIS2009 pages. However it is stated to be for NIS2009 and for N360V2 so I wonder if they forget to delete NIS2009?

    Hang on while we check!
