Time for me to renew. Once I renew how do I put 2012 on my wife's new work laptop w/o a disc.

I loaded Norton IS 2011 from a disc for my home computer a while ago. I then received the 2012 update from Norton through an on-line download from Symantec.  I am getting ready to renew but I have a question about getting Norton IS 2012 onto my wife's new work laptop.  I do have the product key from the original 2011 disc purchase.

What is the best way of getting MacAfee off my wife's laptop, or at least disabling it and getting 2012 on her laptop with my current  Norton subscription?  When I renew in a couple of days what will I need to do for her laptop?

The easiest way to get NIS 2012 onto your wife's laptop (opr any other machine) is from that machine to log onto your MyNortonAccount  that you created to activate your own installation and use the Download button since this will download the current version available for download already activated with your KEY ....

But first get rid of McAfee as you so rightly ask ...

Uninstall it in the normal way and then run the McAfee tool that you can downlod from their website as below:

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

Run that and restart.

Just be careful not to go anywhere dangerous until you get the Norton installed!

After installing Norton run LiveUpdate a few times with a restart inbetween until it tells you that you are fully uptodate.

Then enjoy safe comuting .......

Thanks Hugh but I am probably going to hold off on installing NIS 2012 onto her work laptop.  She has to use Outlook and I see from this forum that 2012 has issues with Outlook. (I am experiencing the Word  open document issue everytime I try to use Word now and from what I read this is also an issue with NIS 2012)  I will probably go with a new product.

If you want to stick with NIS 2011 for now then here's the link to download it:

Click on this link -- NIS 2011   This will download a single file of around 1000MB which you should save on your hard drive where you can use it again if necessary -- Do not select Run but use Save when asked and remember where you put it!

If the computer has VISTA or WIndows 7 on it I recommend running this file to install NIS by right mouse clicking on it and selecting Run as Adminsistrator since that tends to give better results than a straight Run.

After it is installed you can activate it with your present KEY whether 2011 or 2012. Using the Support / Subscription Status link on the main screen may do it without entering the key manually.

You may want to go into the settings under LiveUpdate I think and disable the one about Version Upgrade which should stop being nagged about upgrading to 2012 and also stop the downloading of the files even if they are not installed since it does that and then asks if you want to upgrade or not.

If you want to do this on your own computer then uninstall NIS using the Norton Removal Tool or you will be told you can't install and older version on top of a newer one.

This link Symantec Norton Removal Tool. will direct you to the Symantec Norton Removal Tool. Run it a couple of times with a restart inbetween BUT if you have been using Identity Safe export the data files from it to a safe place off your main drive.

Please let us know how you get on or if you have any queries ....
