I have Norton Anti-virus and scan my computer regularly. Today when I turned on my computer, the antivirus that I assume came with the computer, was running a scan and said I have 7 malicious programs that are all trojans. I ran the Norton Anti-virus and it came up with nothing. Sounds like a 'marketing ploy' because when I clicked to active the product, it was going to cost me $40.
I have tried to remove the other anti-virus with no luck. How can I turn the other scan off? How can I get rid of it? Any suggestions?
thanks,
boham

Hi boham,
Can you tell us which Norton AntiVirus version you are using? (Help & Support > About)
Also, if you can tell us which operating system you are using along with the service pack, that would further help us with diagnosing your issue.
You mentioned: "...the antivirus that I assume came with the computer". If you could tell us the name of this product or provide a screenshot, that would be a great help.
Just to confirm - this program is reporting Trojans and not mentioning anything about encrypting your files correct?
If it is just reporting Trojans you may have a rogue AV program on your computer.
As an initial action, you could download the FREE version of Malwarebytes here. Install it, get the updated definitions and run a Full Scan in SAFE MODE.
Let us know the results of that scan along with the other requested information.
Thanks.

Hi Boham,
Welcome to Norton Community!
Let us know the exact name of the "other antivirus" program you use. It may a misleading application, which intentionally misrepresent the security status of a computer in an attempt to convince that you must remove potentially unwanted programs or security risks (usually nonexistent or fake) from the computer. Misleading applications often look convincing—the programs may look like legitimate security programs and often have corresponding websites with user testimonials, lists of features, etc. Pesonal AntiVirus, Antivirus2009, WniGuard, Virusremover2008, VirusDoctor etc are some of the known Misleading applications.
