I noticed yesterday that my NORTON wasn't working and wouldn't even open. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with my original disk Norton Antivirus 2005. I have updated my Subscription each year online and I THINK I might have even upgraded this past year (2009) to Norton Internet Security. When I log into Norton to my account, they do show a different KEY # than the one on my disk. Anyway, I've done the live updates to Norton 2005 and it still says 2005. So I'm at a loss of what to do now. I might have to unistall again. Can someone please help? I don't see anywhere that I an write to customer service about what to do. Thank you. Nancy B.
Hi crafty1
Renewing your subscription each year is he right thing to do but in order to get to the next version you would have needed to have downloaded the newer versions and installed them. The current version is NIS 2010 and 2011 is due to come out in the next couple of months or so. Normally you would be entitled to a free upgrade to the newest version but that only applies to to users of the 2006 version and newer. In the circumstances I would suggest that you contact customer support and see what they can do for you in terms of an upgrade to the latest version. You can contact them via this chat link

Hello crafty1
Welcome to the Norton Users Discussion Forum
NAV 2005 is quite old now. You can chat with customer support for free via the chat program. If you have subscribed to another program like NIS, they can tell you if you have and also what version you had upgraded to. Here is the link for the free customer support. Customer support is the department to speak to for any subscription issues.

This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.
NAV 2005 is too old to allow you a free upgrade to the newest version.
Please let us know how you made out. Thanks.

I do think I might have updated my version in November 2009 because my old icon said NORTON INTERNET SECURITY <instead of Norton AntiVirus> ,but I never printed out what I got at that time. I would imagine Customer Service would be able to tell?

Hi Nancy,
You have a very old Norton product, the latest version is Norton 2010. Norton 2005 cannot keep up with today's threat landscape. Depending on whether your computer meets the minimum system requirements (listed over here under "System Requirements"), you can upgrade to NAV 2010; however, since only customers of Norton 2006 and later products can upgrade for free to Norton 2010, you would have to purchase Norton 2005 (you can buy the upgrade version at a discount since you are already a Symantec customer).
Also, please note that Norton AntiVirus does not include firewall protection, whereas Norton Internet Security includes a firewall.
If you decide to purchase NAV or NIS 2010, you can also contact Symantec Customer Support (you can chat with them for free) and ask them about discount options:

Hi Nancy,
Lots of people answered at the same time ;-)
It is best to contact Symantec Customer Support for further information. To find out which version of Norton you are running, open Norton, go to Support (or to Help and Support - menu option varies from Norton version to version) and then to About to check the version number.

Hi crafty1
If you open your Norton program and click on "Help & Support" and then click on "About" as advised by Yaso it would help us to refine our advice to you as to how best to proceed. It is in the format xx.xx.xx.xx

WOW...I can't stop thinking it ---WOW. I went to live chat as suggested and a techie did a remote to my puter and uninstalled my old 2005 version and reinstalled the 2010 Version <I had upgraded in Nov>...I'm THRILLED. Norton's Live Chat person made it so painless---and Im up and running.
UNBELIEVABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE IMO!!! How often do you get service like that from anywhere? Not often these days.
KUDOS to Norton...and many thanks to my techie---RAJA!!! You made my day!!! (and to all of your kind replies pointing me in the right direction!!!)
