I own a subscription for Norton Antivirus (single PC) for my laptop. Unfortunately, the hard drive failed and is irreparable. I was able to get most of my files off (whatever wasn't already backed up), but now I'm trying to figure out how to handle my Norton subscription as the subscription is valid through summer of 2011. I tried looking through the site and support pages for a solution, but didn't see one that fit this sort of problem.
I plan on getting a new computer next month. So. Is there a way for me to use the remaining subcription on the new PC? I don't think I have a CD for my product, either, so is there a way to download a copy without paying for a new key/subscription? Or, if I manage to find a CD for my initial product (which is probably way out of date), can I use that to install it, use my orphaned key/sub and be able to update the product to the latest version without an additional charge?
Thanks in advance,
StarStrider

Hi StarStrider,
You don't have to pay for a new product key or anything else since you have a current subscription :-) In order transfer your subscription to your new computer and install NAV 2011, please do the following and download and save the latest and full NAV 2011 installation package to your computer from this link:
www.norton.com/nav11
You will also need your Norton product key in order to activate NAV 2011; during activation, your subscription days will be picked up automatically by Norton. You can fetch your product key from your Norton account:
http://www.mynortonaccount.com/
After installing NAV 2011, run LiveUpdate at once in order to obtain the latest updates.
During activation, a notification may pop up saying that you have exceeded the number of allowed activations. If this happens, please contact Symantec Customer Support, and they will reset your activations for you. You can chat with them for free over here:

Thank you! That sounds great, and just as simple as I'd hoped. Thanks for the fast response, too! =)

You're welcome :-)
Also, please uninstall any preinstalled antivirus software from your new computer before installing NAV 2011. Antivirus vendors usually provide removal tools in order to guarantee a clean deinstallation of their software.

Hello StarStrider
Please remember also to use a good firewall since NAV 2011 is only a antivirus program and not a firewall. Thanks.

Thanks both for the reminder!
Floplot, the new computer will likely be Win7 Home, would you know if there is a recommended "best" firewall for Win7 I should look into?

Hello StarStrider
A good home router will give you a firewall in it and some have 2 firewalls in them. Of course since you are in the Norton Forum, most will say having Norton Internet Security will provide you with the best firewall also. When you are looking for a firewall, please make sure it is just a firewall and that it doesn't have any of the features which NAV 2011 has so that it doesn't conflict with NAV 2011.
