I would like to know why this board has been created? If this has been created for support and healthy discussions ? If so, then why Symentec is not taking responciablity and accept that they are no that good as they project?
I do not know about others but I have just created one thread and posted some questions in another post. To my surprise no proper repliy since long?
So it means we should not waste our hard earned money on Symantec or any other Antivirus/Spyware application and use Avaliable Free Application as they are better or almost same capabilities?
Peace

A few very knowledgeable Norton users, some of whom are computer techs themselves, and others who learned the hard way, volunteer on this forum to help users who are having difficulty with their installations. Some Symantec employees also volunteer their time to answer questions and direct problems to the appropriate place.
In one of your posts you advised that you had uninstalled NIS2009 and returned to 2008. In this instance no one can help you as you no longer require it. The other question you asked was why should you spend your good money on Norton antivirus. No one is here to convince you to use it. We all like it a great deal. Yes there are some conflicts with other programs. This does not make it the fault of Norton. Some users have found ways to resolve some issues and share that information with the rest of the forum. Very helpful.
If you don't need help, or advice, but just want to complain, no one has an answer for you. Some people might sympathize, but have nothing positive to add.

vkat,
As delphinium suggested, I certainly do sympathize with you. You seem to have had a bad experience, and that experience may leave you with a poor opinion of Norton products. Unfortunately bad experiences do happen, not only with software products but in all avenues of life. It appears at least that your immediate issues have been resolved, and regardless of the means used to solve them, I am pleased about this. Viruses and worms are annoying at best, and can be downright crippling at worst. In a perfect world Norton antivirus would be able to detect all threats all the time, before they can do any damage or spread. But that is not the case (not yet at least...). If you find that a free application is helpful, I don't believe anyone on this forum - or outside of this forum for that matter - would hold it against you.
At the end of the day, the onus is very much on us (Symantec) as a company - charging for and providing a service - to be better than the competition, both free and paid. That is what we strive for day in and day out. Sometimes we may fall a bit short, and for that we can only apologise and pledge to do better going forward.
May your experiences be good ones.

Hi JohnM
Some people do the discussions other than the respective topics ........hence do not get responses
Some refuse to take help.......and then they start shouting at Symantec...not understanding their
own mistakes.
these people can't get better.
Anyways ,do you have any idea on LU failing issue ???

My thought`s on your post.
When you put your key in your car, you better know how to drive it. ( OR LEARN )
When you put your key in your computer you better know how to run it. ( OR LEARN )
This is from a new user of computer`s ( 6 year`s and still learning )
This is a great forum ! ! ( hat`s off for Symantec for running it )

Dear Mr. JohnM, Thank you for your reply and I do agree that we do experience Good and Bad everywhere throughout our life. As you are the only one seems to be positive within this thread. So, I would like tell you I am lover of Symantec since past more then 15 years. I am not using any other application for security till date. I always try to grab latest applications of Symantec. But, this time I find standard of NIS2009 is way below then expected.
That is why I am worried a lot. So, as far as Symantec is concern I wanted to ask that what was the hurry to bring out NIS2009 when it was not 100% ready? What Symantec gained out of it? NIS2008 is a great application without much of problems.
Can you suggest how long it will take Symantec to rectify NIS2009?
I would like to thank all Symantec Staff for contributing there precious time to support this community.
As far as other application is concern. I think it’s good to discuss them but not as solution. Solutions should be incorporated within Symantec applications. I think that is how we can come out with a Good, Healthy and useful community to Symantec as well as many users around the globe.
Peace
PS: I am sorry if I heart anyone but, my intentions are not bad at all and I am not against anyone.

How about adding sandbox in next product update
and also if symantec keep checking vir def released by other products, reverse engineer it and update its vir def with those which are detected by others it will get a load off from symantec people
I am not sayin to violate any copyright, just chk wat def they have and y can't norton detect those which can b done by them.

Part of the problem with Norton often is not Norton, it is updates or the lack of them by other software makers. They are not obliged to ensure that there software or hardware is compatible with anyone else's software although it would certainly pay them to do so. Consider how many programs are available for download, also how many of them are older programs whose code is obsolete. Consider also that people in many countries are paid to invent worms and viruses to bypass and defeat all antivirus software. These malware programs are now configured to change their settings as often as their designers desire to enable them to hide as legitimate programs.
As you can see, it is impossible for any antivirus to be all things, in all machines, in all computer environments, for every user. There are going to be issues that must be figured out and worked around. This does not mean that NIS2009 is defective in any way or poorly put together.
Consider also that antivirus programs are made to stop attacks, not necessarily remove infections. For this reason posters have recommended other programs that are designed to remove infections, repair infections, or remove tracking cookies, which aren't really a threat.
No single program can do it all. It is best to arm yourself with the best, most compatible, antivirus, on call malware remover, and probably a registry cleaner. That is why different people suggest different programs that they have found to be successful on their machines.

Also other antivirus software or coding might not be compatible with Norton, therefore they can't just knock on the competition's door and ask to use their virus definitions. Just not done. Sandbox is, I believe, a virtual system on a system and not antivirus software at all. That's rather like asking to have a lion's tail included with your sheep.
If you require assistance, you need to tell us your operating system, error messages, any information in history, what other security programs you have, and more to give the forum enough information to actually help. That is what the board is for.

Dear delphinium, Thank you very much for details about what antivirus application is and how it works. We always learn something daily. If you have gone thorugh my original questions my prime concern with NIS2009 is why there are so many problems. I have never said that its not protecting o should protect 100% threats.
Anyhow, once again I should mentions major prblems I faced using NIS2009 :-
1) Virus Scan Hangs and nothing happe. I have to re-start my System;
2) Identity Safe (IS) does not work properly. I have around 25-30 Logins and it shows only 10-12;
3) Security Inspector (SI) is not embeded. Earlier I have downloaded the same but now I checked for new release but unable to find links.
So, my worry is if there were problems with NIS2009 and IS & SI were not ready. Why Symantec relieasedNIS2009? What was the hurry
Now if you ask me why I am so much concerned about my hard earned money. I was having around 200 days subscription left when I purchase NIS2009 and paid around $40 and what I found in return? Nothing new but another year subscription. As I am forced to use same old NIS2008 as NIS2009 is not working as good as NIS2008.
