Hi,
I have been using the popular browsers like IE9, FF8, and Chrome 15, and keep them updated (automatic updates). All three aforementioned browsers are supported by NIS 2012. However, noticed that Opera is not supported by NIS 2012 so I don't use this browser regularly, unless I experience slow speed from my ISP. Is there a likelihood of Norton / Symantec extending the protection to Opera through NIS suite anytime in the (near) future ?

Ramesh

Hi Ramesh,
Still we don't see the statistics saying there are more number of users for Opera.
Even in IE we support only 32-bit version and 64-bit we still don't support reason its not that much popular among the users.
So when the need arises we will have a look at supporting Opera.

Hi Prasanna,
I believe this is like the chicken and egg situation. While I appreciate your view that Norton / Symantec will consider supporting Opera when usage statistics for the browser improve, perhaps that's one of the reasons many surfers don't use Opera. I like to use Opera for its features (some not present in other popular browsers yet), but am wary of using it for, say online shopping or Netbanking, as it is not protected from malware etc. by NIS, which IE, FF, and Chrome are.
Anyway, shall await developments in this regard from Symantec, and hope it includes Opera support in future.

Ramesh

Hi rameshiyer:
Please take a look at this:
I understand your desire but what it comes down to is a business decision on the part of Symantec.
Personally speaking, I have to agree with Prasanna_a and wish it could be different.
Hope this puts things in perspective for you.

Hi @Atomic_Blast,
Yes, I understand that this is more of a business decision than effort estimate for development. Just wish Symantec had been more liberal in this regard. Thanks anyways for clarifs.

Ramesh
