Hello Whiskey14,
That depends upon the version of NIS.
The newer versions (2009 and 2010) show the remaining days at the bottom of the main NIS user interface.
Let us know what version and we'll point you in the right direction.
(If your Dad needs help identifying the version, you can direct him here.)

Hi, Whiskey14,
Welcome to the Norton Users' Discussion Forum.
Please Open your Norton Product; it should say on the Main User Interface for Norton 2009/2010; if you have an Older Version, then the Subscription Status will be located under the "Norton Internet Security" tab. If you have Thirty Days Of Subscription Remaining, you will get a Norton window telling you this; if you Select the "Remind Me Later" option, the window will Open again in about a week.
In order to make sure you have the Latest Version for your "Dad's" O.S., what Version of N.I.S. does your dad have? To find this: Open your Norton Product > Help & Support > About and Post the Version.
Thank-You.

Just got off the phone with my Dad in Alabama, I'm here in Florida. When he opens NIS it goes straight to the scan, if he goes to Start, Programs, NIS - the only thing listed there is NIS Scan. Short of me taking over his computer, which he has screwed up in the past, saw that Office Depot is having a sale on NAV 2010 plus a rebate for previous owners. Told him that I'll get him that for Christmas. It bugs me though that I can't figure out how to tell how much time he has left. Sent him the site you mentioned, but he doesn't see anything like that.
Thank you for getting back so quickly. BTW, I've been using Symnatec products for the last 12 years, either SystemWorks or NAV on my computers. So common sense would think I would know how but don't. Thanks again!

Hi Whiskey14,
Do you have any idea how long ago NIS was installed on your Dad's computer? NIS is a subscription based service which means if it is not renewed every year, then he won't be getting additional virus definitions updates.
Have you asked him when he renewed the last time?
Allen

That is odd. Is there any chance he has Norton Security Scan installed?
Norton Security Scan has been offered as an additional download with other products such as Adobe Shockwave and is also available at this Symantec site. However, this is only a scanner and does not offer realtime protection.
Just a thought.

As far as I know, there is no time limit as it is a free scanner. The important point is that no realtime protection is provided.
Try to find out and get your Dad some realtime protection asap.

Hi again,
That is why I mentioned about getting him NAV 2010 for Christmas through Office Depot as they are having a sale this week. Thanks again for the information, never knew about the Norton Security Scan - learn something new everyday.
Thanks again!
