I have read on many forums about peoples sour taste on Norton Products , basically describing Norton as the devil itself .
Then they will proceed in saying that all the free suites are the best - i.e A.V.G / Avast .
Apart from my one issue with Norton where it didn't find a virus , it has always looked after my system to the highest of quality .
At the moment i have - N.I.S 2012 & Norton Utilities 15 , and swear by Norton being the king of all Internet security.
How can a free suite be better , are they serious or just to skint to pay for a real Internet security ???

Free is not better.
Judge for yourself.

Hi IanTheGreat,
Just my 2 cents worth:
There was a time that Norton was not as light on system resources as it is presently (actually it started to get lighter in the 2009 products). Norton was made aware of the situation by former users, such as myself, who ditched Norton for other products. Norton did listen to its customers and worked and continues to work on their products having little system impact. I tired NIS as a trial on my newWin 7 system in 2009, kept it, ditched my Kaspersky and have never looked back.
Those who have called Norton the devil were correct (in the past), but most of those whose voices we hear now are those who have not tried Norton recently and continue to bad mouth a product they haven't tried lately.
I will admit there are some good free products out there and in this day and age, that may be the answer for those who can't afford to pay for security protection. In their case even a "less than the best protection" is much better than no protection at all.
BTW - I pay for my NIS license every year - but do run the free Comcast Norton Security Suite on a second Win 7 desktop for troubleshooting purposes on this and the Comcast Forum, and I find it a very good free option - of course it is a clone of Norton 360! ![]()

Hi IanTheGreat,
Welcome to the Norton Community.
Norton security products are consistently rated the highest in independant real world tests. I emphasize real world because sometimes companies concentrate on one area such as signature based detection and many times they will disable the Internet connection which eliminates all cloud based technologies. In my opinion tests like this are not valid simply because a product should be taken as a whole and is all of the technologies put together which provide the overall protection to the end computer.
And I agree with Yank, Norton is very light on resources these days. The only time I can even tell that Norton is running is when I purposely initiate a full system scan which will continue to run even though I am using the computer and even then the impact is at worst moderate. Bear in mind that when Norton initiates a full system scan on its own (referred to as Idle scan) it will automatically pause when you start using the computer so that it does not impact your work.
Hope the past few responses helps clarify. ![]()
Best wishes.
Allen

sturgess,
If you are suggesting that because Quads uses Norton it must be good, I would have to agree.

Now you're havin' a laugh Krusty13, but this forum lacks humour I find. So hope you and the other 12 Krustys at home are all happy and well. Me, I'm covered by Norton and Prevx (Webroot), Prevx, I've still not gone over to Webroot as yet are the folk I go to when in a fix, you see they fix it for free, so no need for a Quads intervention with them in my pocket, phew. Hope you and all those who respond to my post this day receive lots of Kudos .

I am laughing now that you have told us you are covered by two real time programs!

I also use Malwarebytes Pro (real time) Trusteer Rapport (real time), and this post is being made on a machine running Windows 8 and IE 10, with the only protection being provided by Windows Defender, and I still don't need to call for help.
PS Quick congratulations, I've just spotted you received 4 Kudos for supplying a link. Really, is supplying a link actually worth 4 Kudos. Be honest now, was your post a true 4 Kudos post ? Well..........?????

I have no interest in kudos or rank. You just keep believing what ever you like.
I will ask what you are doing on the net that makes you think you need multiple security programs?
