Why would this turn up in task manager/NIS firewall entry

Just a question I was on the pc and heard the add/remove hardware noise....I had not plugged anything in or removed anything. I opened up the task manager to see what was going on in there and I saw Spoolsv.exe.I know this is to do with the printer and printing.I have no printer connected and when I did have it was through the networked computer across the room, which is not connected now.

Anyway I looked in NIS2010 and in the Firewall a new rule was created for Spooler Sub system App.What is this as I have not seen it before? it happened about the same time as I have heard the noise.Easily explained or a cause for further investigation?

You probably have the print service set to "Automatic"  in the "Administrative Tools", "Services".

I tried to upload screenshots but the forum won't load the image after browsing

Thanks Quads

Yes I have, just changed it to manual. Why would it start up by itself and would it be reasponsible for the noise I heard?

Unsure about the noise, might be a one off thing,

The Print service for me is also set to automatic, that is why I could get the screen of it showing in my Norton to.

The service starts during the Windows load.

I just checked it in Black Viper...great site for learning these things.

I guess the noise worried me as........Can your pc just decide to go beep when it wants to? especially when it sounds like the unplugging of a piece of hardware from your USB ports and you have nothing there.

Depends on the Beep, If you have drivers to load for a USB device on startup but after startup it realises that the device is not connected then unloads drivers as it's not required, (beep beep)

Like every time you plug and unplug a Flash drive,  plug in, bleep,  unplug bleep.

That's handy to know,It sounded like just the unload sound, like when I pull out my camera/microphone without using the remove hardware route (I have been guilty of this on occasion)....Nothing stands out on start up in msconfig.
