Will NIS 2009 or NIS 2010 delete old online games or Gamespy Arcade?

[ Edited ]

Hi

My subscription for System Works 12 standard is going to run out in 75 days. Since there will be no more System Works, I am going to have to pick a new product. I use 2 programs which are old and I am considering both NIS 2009 and NIS 2010. I am an online player and I have seen threads in the Forum about the programs deleting some online games. I use GameSpy Arcade which can be found at www.gamespyarcade.com. I am a subscriber at this site for about 10 years now and under no circumstances will I use a program which may delete that program. I also play Unreal Tournament 99 which you can see is an old game which we play online. I also do not want this program to get deleted. What I would like to know is if there is anyone out there that uses gamespy arcade and plays Unreal Tournament online and can do so successfully with NIS. Right now I have the NAV part of System Works 16.7.2.11 engine part and 16.7.2. 10 part for the rest of NAV. I don't know if I should stick with NAV or go to NIS. At the site I have posted, they do have a newer version called Comrade, but that lacks chat rooms for the different games. I have friends online that I know for like over 10 years and we still play the old game which is the best one and we still use gamespy arcade. Since they are both old programs, I don't know if this new and stronger Sonor is going to delete gamespyarcade and UT99. If it will, then I not going to use NIS. From what I have seen in the forum, people who write new programs have the same problem since it's something new. My 2 programs are so old that I don't know if they are in Norton's data base and would be safe from Sonor and anything else. Would it be possible for someone to download gamespy arcade and see if it does get deleted? There is a free version, I'm registered, but I don't think it would make a difference. There's probably no one around who has ut 99 to check that out for me, but if there is, maybe someone could tell me if that game won't get deleted. Thanks.

Re: Will NIS 2009 or NIS 2010 delete old online games or Gamespy Arcade?

I think if you change to NIS, there will be nothing... It is using the same AV engine as NAV, maybe you have to configure the firewall rules for those programs to Allow, but as I think nothing else....
Maybe you can try NIS2010 too! :)

What I would do if I would be in your situation:
1. Before the change create a full system Ghost backup, and remove NSW12, install the new program and test how it works. If OK, just revert back with the saved ghost files, and use NSW until it is expired, and then install NIS.
2. If you PC is "strong" enough, install a virtual PC software, and create a new PC, on that install the OS you use, the two critical programs, plus the new AV(s). And test them how they work together.

If you need any help, don't hesitate ;)
And of course let us know the results. :D

Re: Will NIS 2009 or NIS 2010 delete old online games or Gamespy Arcade?

Hi

I don't have Ghost and I don't think my son would go thru all that to find out if the programs won't get deleted auto by NAV or NIS.. What I really need I guess is for someone to install gamespyarcade and see if that installs ok with NIS 2009 or NAV 2009.If it does install ok, then who ever would try to install it can then uninstall the program. It is a free program. That would solve part of my problem. I am also thinking about getting Norton's Utilities since that does seem to do a lot of what System Works 12 Standard does. I'm not sure if I can install both NAV and Norton Utilities because it looks like both products have optimization in them.

I guess the question is whether NAV or NIS deletes old programs that aren't as popular as they used to be. I'm hesitant about 2010 products because the Sonor is much stronger I have heard and their data base seems to be based on popularity of a program also. The people in GSA that I know have given up with Symantec years ago. I'm a VIP in the GSA Forum and I have seen that some do have probs with their antivirus programs and GSA. I don't know how recent that was.

I could only try it for you with N360 3.0 (latest version v3.5.2.11)...
What I can tell you after the download/install of GameSpy Arcade I had no error/virus messages. I could start the program, only did not created a user for it. Plus an extra thing: it works on widows 7 without any extra change in the run settings too ;)

You can use the two programs together without any problems.

Re: Will NIS 2009 or NIS 2010 delete old online games or Gamespy Arcade?

Hi Papauz

Thanks for trying. I currently have NAV 16.7.2.11 with my System Works. I think that is the equivalent of what I have now. I know it works with what I have since I do live in that site. At least my computer does although I am not always paying attention in there. I've heard that it works with win 7. I'm surprised at that since they really haven't updated the program in years. I know people had probs getting into it until sp 1 came out for Vista and even then, they still have to click thru several errors to get into a lobby. I know you didn't go that far into the program since you didn't create a user profile. I'm afraid though to try 2010 with that program and with Unreal Tournament 99 also since they are so old. That sonar 2 may be too strong for those 2 programs.
