Windows 7 Says Not Working but Norton Says it is????

[ Edited ]

Recently, I have been seeing a warning message from Windows 7 in the systray that says my AV, Firewall, and Spyware is not loaded and running.  However, I bring up the NIS console and everything looks ok.

Am I protected or not?  And what could be causing the disconnect between Windows and Norton?  Anyone else see this?

Re: Windows 7 Says Not Working but Norton Says it is????

Hi SlyBelle,

Welcome to the Norton Community.

Is your OS 32 or 64 bit? What version of NIS do you have from Help & Support > About?

You mentioned recently. Was Windows showing the correct status before? When did this problem start? Have you noticed any other problems besides this?

Do you see this only at startup or does it persist after that?

Do you have any other security (anti-virus, etc) software installed on your computer besides NIS? Before you first installed NIS what security software did you have and how was it removed?

Thanks

Allen

Re: Windows 7 Says Not Working but Norton Says it is????

Thanks for helping.  Here is some more info.

1) Windows 7-64 bit

2) NIS version 17.7.0.12

3) This issue has happened on/off for about a month or so.

4) Until a month or so ago, windows was reporting everything fine

5) I have not installed any other security products.  Only security that has ever been on this computer is NIS.

Since I posted, I did a general search and one recommendation was to unregister and register the wmiutils.dll file.  I have since done that and haven't seen the issue again tonight.  But not sure if that corrects it or not since it didn't always happen before.

Re: Windows 7 Says Not Working but Norton Says it is????

Hi SlyBelle,

Thanks very much for the update.

Good job on hunting this down. One such thread I saw on this issue was located here.

I would recommend giving it some time until you are comfortable if this has solved the problem or not.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks again and best wishes.

Allen

Hi SlyBelle,

I was wondering how this was going? Did the solution you came across work for you?

Thanks very much.
