Windows Smart Screen Filter and NIS 2010

[ Edited ]

I recently downloaded and installed NIS 2010. I am running Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 8

I noticed that on my administrative account, when I open  internet explorer 8, and click on safety in the upper right hand toolbar in shows that smart screen filter is on.

On the other4  standard user accounts on my computer the smart screen filter is off.

I remember that when I had NIS 2009 I was supposed to keep smart screen filter off so as not to interfere with NIS 2009 antiphishing.

What should I do now that I have installed NIS 2010 ? Have smart screen filter on or off?

Thanks Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Please confirm that Norton Anti-Phishing is turned ON (main interface > Web Settings > Safe Surfing > Anti-Phishing) and then you should turn OFF the IE8 Smart Screen Filter.

Norton 360 • Norton Internet Security • Norton Zone | XP SP3 • Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64

Hi Phil_D,

Yes, Norton Anti-Phishing is turned on.

I turned the IE8 smart screen filter OFF in IE8 on the administrative account. It was already off in the 4 standard accounts.

Thanks Kevin

Re: Windows Smart Screen Filter and NIS 2010

To Phil_D,

Why should I turn off smart screen filter in IE8. Wouldn't it be good to have both smart screen filter and NIS 2010 anti-Phishing on together?

or

is there an issue like in NIS 2009  (or maybe cause an issue)  with both running at the same time

Thanks Kevin

Re: Windows Smart Screen Filter and NIS 2010

Hi Kevin,

Yes, with Norton Anti-Phishing and IE8 Smart Screen filter both turned on, there is a potential for conflict.

You may also notice a slight degradation in browser speed if both are on.

I prefer to use only the Norton Anti-Phishing.
