Windows xp

I downloaded norton internet security 2012 and have installed it on windows xp and windows 7.  The one on windows 7 works perfect, but the one on windows xp crashes and will not start again.  Have uninstalled it and used norton unintaller but everytime I reinstall it it crashes.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Re: Windows xp

John,

How does your XP system compare with the System Requirements for XP:

  • Microsoft® Windows® XP (32-bit) Home/Professional/Tablet PC/Media Center (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 or later

Minimum Hardware Requirements

  • 300 MHz for Microsoft Windows XP, 1 GHz for Microsoft Windows Vista/Microsoft Windows 7
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 300 MB of available hard disk space
  • CD-ROM or DVD drive (if not installing via electronic download)

Browser Plug-In Support

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer® 6.0 or later (32-bit only)
  • Mozilla® Firefox® 3.0 and later (32-bit only)

Support for Antispam

  • Microsoft Outlook® 2002 or later
  • Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 or later
  • Windows Mail (spam filtering only)

Browser Support for Vulnerability Protection and Phishing Protection

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer® 6.0 or later (32-bit only)
  • Mozilla® Firefox® 3.0 and later (32-bit only)

What security application did you have on the XP machine before installing NIS 2012? How did you remove them before installing NIS 2012?

How did you install it -- download from Norton, using a disk or downloaded file or ....

When you say "Crashed" can you describe in more detail what happened including just when it crashed during the procedure or after and any error messages etc you got?

Sorry to ask so many questions but we can't see your PC!

Re: Windows xp

That's OK I had Norton internet security 2011 its about ready to expire so I thought I would try 2012.  Have windows XP 32 bit pro sp3 I downloaded the 2012 Trial version from Norton, I uninstalled the 2011 using the built in uninstaller also used Norton removal tool and Norton power eraser.  It crashes after it is installed I try and click on the icon in the task bar and it disappears, then try and start it from programs and it will not start.  I have checked for viruses and malware rootkits everything  comes up clean.  Hope this is enough info.

Thanks

Re: Windows xp

You mentioned you use Power Eraser. Did you delete anything using that tool? If you delete the wrong file, you could cause instability in your pc. Actually the power eraser is not necessary in the upgrade, just the Norton removal tool and the uninstall using add/remove or start menu.

Re: Windows xp

Any other security programs you are using. What was the prior security program you had before Norton (factory installed included). Did you use the program's removal tool e.g. McAffee removal tool for McAffee products.

Re: Windows xp

Any other products that you have may share the same job as Norton and conflict with it?
