blue screen crashing after installing NIS 2011 upgrade

I upgraded to NIS 2011 a few weeks ago and my computer continually crashes, blue screen points to problem file SYMEFA.SYS.

When I searched for this file it found this:  C:Windows\systems32\drivers\NIS 1201000.025

I downloaded the upgrade link without removing the previous NIS 2009, which was not mentioned, I assumed it would do it automatically.

Could this be the reason I am experiences the crashes??

Please let me know what I need to do to fix this problem, thanks.

Re: blue screen crashing after installing NIS 2011 upgrade

Hello skyski

If you installed NIS 2011 directly over 2009, that would cause issues. I would recommend uninstalling NIS 2011 and doing a clean install of it. Over the top works ok if you are doing it over the top of the previous year's program and if there were no porblems with the prior version.

Please get your key from www.mynortonaccount.com

Please backup your Identity safe file if you use that feature.

Please follow these instructions to save your Identity Safe information by creating NPM file.

Thanks to Yaso for the link.

Please download and save to desktop Norton Removal Tool which will remove all Norton Products.

You can download the Norton Removal tool from

http://www.symantec.com/symnrt

Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.

Thank you Allen for new link

Please download and save NIS 2011 to desktop.

http://www.norton.com/nis11

Now you ready to start the prociess

Please use Control panel to remove NIS 2011 and then disconnect from the net and reboot

Please run NRT 2 times with a reboot after each run of it.

Please run NIS 2011 and get back on the net when it wants to activate.

Please run live update until it gets all the updates and then reboot one more time.

Please run live update aain just to make sure.

Reinstall identify safe file if you use that.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thank.s

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.
