ccSvcHst (Symantec Service Framework) shuts down unexpectedly when Automatic LiveUpdate is ran

[ Edited ]

I'm having a problem similar to the one described in the original post, so I'm answering the questions already posed to thomasv12:

What is your operating system and service pack level?  Are you installing from a disk or a download?

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600

Download.

Did you have any other security installed before NIS 2010 and how was it uninstalled?

November 5, 2009 upgraded NIS2009/Systemworks to NIS2010/Norton Utilities

Successfully accomplished upgrade after the usual "automatic upgrades", use of the Norton Removal Tools for NIS2009/Systemworks and NIS2010/Norton Utilities (I can remember having to reinstall Systemworks so I could uninstall it again) and other rigamorole.

and last but not least, are there any other security products installed?

No.

Up until the last two weeks everything has been functioning well on my system until the following window began popping up on my screen accompanied with the following information:

NIS 17.5.0.127

szAppName:ccsvchst.exe
szAppVer:109.0.2.14
szModName:ncw.dll
szModVer:17.5.0.127
offset:00049b56

I've also provided screen shots of my Norton products' About screens.

. . . or not since my bmp and jpg files were rejected.

Re: Need Help: NIS 2010 Crashing

I'm about convinced that the frequent Live Updates are responsible for causing the service framwork to crash. If NIS2010 restarts itself and I open the settings window, I see that Live Update had run at the time of the crash. Is that a possibility?

Hmm . . . it looks like according to what I found at this link, the solution is to remove all my Norton programs with the Romoval Tool and then reinstall everything. ::sigh:: :smileymad: I'll try that and report back . . . if anyone is interested!

Re: Need Help: NIS 2010 Crashing

The problem still has not been resolved. The uninstall/reinstall of NIS2010 seems to have accomplished nothing. The situation that most reliably provokes a crash of the framework involves viewing video content at Hulu. When I'm using Firefox 3.6.2, it crashes first followed soon afterward by the framework crashing. My experiences using Internet Explorer 8 and Chrome 4 & 5 yield similar results. As a result, I'm convinced that there is a hardware conflict with the framework.

Re: Need Help: NIS 2010 Crashing

When you receive this error, please try:

1.Right click on Desktop > click on properties
2.Select the Settings tab, and then click on the Advanced button.
3.On the Troubleshoot tab, Reduce the hardware  acceleration slider to left by two or three notches
4.Restart the computer

If the above solution did not work, please try

1. Run the Norton Removal Tool, and then reinstall the Norton product. If the problem persists, go to Step 2.
2. Run Windows update. If that also does not resolve the problem, go to Step 3.
3. Make a note of the display driver. If it is Nvidia, update the driver to the latest.
4. Restart the computer.

Still facing the issue? Then,

1. Run Norton Removal Tool.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Check whether you have the latest version of Microsoft.NET framework. if it is not the latest version, please uninstall the current one, and install the latest version.
4. Reinstall the Norton product

Re: Need Help: NIS 2010 Crashing

Hi Vineeth, thanks for the reply. I'm wondering where you're going with your suggestions.

My video drivers for both my graphics card and my monitor are up to date.

I have the latest (stable) version of Microsoft .NET Framework.

Both Windows and NIS 2010 are fully updated.

----

What should I expect to see after slowing the graphics acceleration?

If it solves the problem, a reduced graphics acceleration setting is the permanent solution?

If not, what other solutions does it suggest?

----

I hesitate to reinstall the software since I discovered a couple of years ago that there is a limit to the number of times a user is allowed to reinstall Norton software before being required to buy a new product key.

That won't be a probelm. If you receive such a message, you can contact the Customer Service team. They will reset the installation limits for your key.

I suggest you to follow the steps given below:

Run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product.

Create a new User Account with administrative privilages.

Log on to the new User Account created.

Install the Norton product in the newly created account.

Log in back to your normal account that you use to login.

Delete the new User Account that you have created.
