Are the virus definitions really geting updated 2 or 3 times a day? I'm continuously being asked to run live update and it always updates the the virus definitions and occasionally something else (web site signatures?). Seems like it's way too often to me...
I had IS 2009 installed and went back to 2008 and used the 2009 key to renew it. I'm wondering if the updates aren't being recognized or something such that it always thinks I'm out of date?

Hi philt56,
Due to ever emerging threats, virus definitions are being released throughout the day.
If you are using NIS 2008, open Symantec Live Update from the Control Panel and be sure it is not set for "Interactive Mode". This mode requires user intervention.
Out of curiosity, why did you revert back to 2008?

thanks.
I went back to 2008 because 2009 was causing my email to be blocked. I would have to reboot in order to access my email server again in Outlook. It would then be good for about an hour or so and then email would stop again. Support would say they fixed it but if course they were rebooting the machine after they would reset some settings and the problem would go away temporarily. I have a thread about it in this forum.

I have not had any problems with Outlook, and I believe I participated in your previous thread. I'll revisit it in a little while and if I have any brilliant ideas, I'll get back to you.
Best Wishes.

Anyway, Norton 2008 Products V.D.s are being Updated three times-a-day Monday to Friday and Twice-a-day on Saturday and Sunday; however, if there is a crisis, then symantec will Release more V.D.s - along with more Updates such as Intrusion Prevention as well - so you are Protected.

Let's stay on topic with the original post.
Hello philt56,
There are new updates about every 5-15 minutes. What is your security status on your computer? Is it "Secure", "Needs Attention" or "At Risk"?

Hello philt56,
When you manually run live update, does it download the streaming definitions each time, or is it a different update package?

Hello philt56,
If you click on View Details after the LiveUpdate is complete, it should give you a detailed list of what updates were installed.
Let me know which updates are continuously downloaded.
