did not stop an attack from a USB

My complaint is, because being a product as expensive and first class according to you.

I had to format my PC after entering an infected usb.

the threat was not blocked or deleted.

AVG Free stopped her at the same time the USB was introduced

I'm sorry you got infected but if you had a Norton product and AVG free installed at the same time they are likely to interfere with each other so Norton may have been stopped from protecting you.

The other problem with malware attacks of the kind you describe is that in a sense the user may invite the infection by bringing it to the computer, as you did by plugging in an infected drive, and then I imagine by accessing that infected file or malware. Without more details of what actually happened it is difficult to know what went wrong.

If you would like some help in dealing with this please would you give us some more information about your system:

What version of Windows are you using including Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit as well as the Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help or Support / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn

If you got or get any error messages please give the exact wording of them as well as any other background that could be helpful.

If you want some help, we'll try .....

Re: did not stop an attack from a USB

In additon to the points made by huwyngr, if the malware installed immediately upon inserting the USB drive then your Windows operating system is not up to date on security patches, since Microsoft disabled USB autorun a couple of months ago to prevent this type of attack.
