Re: it is happening again, Live update

[ Edited ]

Macinwwwv, I'm thinking the latter ! I reckon Norton should concentrate on the core features of malware detection and removal, and get rid of unnecessary anciliary software, which might make things a bit more reliable......  :smileyhappy:

Windows 7 64 Bit Sp1 NIS V 20.4.0.40

I'd rather prevent it, than fix it !

F4E--

No argument from me on concentrating on the core features--I've never spent as much as a nanosecond browsing the Actvity Map.  But truth is, I suspect that they aren't even trying to fix the problem, either because they don't know how to, or because they think it's too minor, or both.  I base that only on the fact that the problem has been going on so long, and on the fact that there is no feedback in response to the posts on the subject.  But I may be wrong.  It's something I've managed several times in the past.

True.  But I can find something prettier, cheaper.

Error: (8920,212) "Norton LiveUpdate was unable to install an update"

Error: "Norton LiveUpdate was unable to install an update" (8920,212) when I run LiveUpdate in Norton Security Suite or Norton Business Suite

That's what it said when i went to the Launch Support Website because there was an error that said "We have encountered a new error with Norton Security Suite. Error: 8920, 212" but when I click begin Support Session, it says "No automatic solutions were found. Click Launch Support Website to continue"

I posted my negative views on Activity map a long time ago, but you get the "fanbois" loving it..and i think one of the quotes at the time had "pretty" in it...hence my post, hopefully you now get my sarcasm.

I have my NIS screen pinned to the Advanced setting.  I never even look at the "eyecandy" Activity Map.

Doesn't matter.  It can still cause the update to fail.  One of several reasons, apparently.

This problem has lingered far too long.

There was a recent post about how long it took to download (the entire) 2012.  The OP compared it to a test he did on a large file from another site (which was fast).

It appears that the IT support people maintaining Symantec's servers are not fully competent.
