On top of other problems I'm experiencing with NIS2012 updates, I'm having the same update failures as others.  Initially it was mostly Activity Maps that failed to update, but recently about once a day (the latest at noon today) it's just been Virus Definitions that failed to update.

But my Live Update history only shows updates every thee or four hours during the day; is that par for the course?

Recently Smart Virus Updates as well as others have not been a problem with NIS 2012, however today I was not able to download and install Full Virus defs, and then I too get

 Sometime NumGui (Norton Update Engine) is blamed in the error report, but all in all it's alot better than it's been in a long time so Thanks, Gorpy1

I am getting the 8920, 223 error now on multiple computers all under a single registration. The following updates are failing to download or complete. 

Norton 2012 Web Protection

Norton 2012 Anti Spam

Norton 2012 Activity Map

Please advise.

Yep, I'm having the same problem! It just started around 2:50PM, too. I keep getting error: 8920,223. Three updates that refuse to go through:

- Norton 2012 Web Protection Definitions

- Norton 2012 AntiSpam Definitions

- Norton Activity Map Data

I use NIS 2012 (installed fresh with NRT yesterday, with Norton's help) and this is Day 2 of major problems for me. Norton, please get this resolved! I really don't want to have to go into chat for another two hours. Thanks, Gina
