Ever since I installed NIS, I keep losing my internet connection, even though my computer says I am connected and I have an IP address. I need to reboot when this happens. There does not seem to be any pattern as to when this happens. I am using Vista. Has anyone had the same problem?

Hi sclk,
Do you have any other security programs running on the PC (especially Microsoft Security Essentials)?

I do not have any other security program running. I uninstalled everything I had.

Hi,
You are connected to internet through a modem or router?
If it is router provide the info please...:)

I am connected thru a Linksys router. I am on a wireless home network. The computer connected to the router does not use Norton. However, there is also a laptop connected that uses the same NIS that I have on my computer. The laptop uses Vista but does not lose the connection. Resetting the modem or the router does not help. I have the same problem if I connect directly using an ethernet cable or a wireless adapter.

I too had the same problem. It was an intermittent kind of thing. I am connected using a modem. I would turn on my PC and the first thing I usually do is use run Live Update. It would update and then when I tried to open my browser I couldn't get on. Windows would search for a solution and say that I had a valid connection but that it had something to do with my firewall and Norton. I would then have to reboot and that would fix it. Unfortunately, I had to do a system recovery for other issues not pertaining to the lost internet connection and it has not happened since nor did I ever have that problem. I figured it was a kink in NIS 2012. I wish I was more tech savvy as I would have posted a screenshot to show the message that windows was telling me was the problem.

I think I got the same message when I tried to repair the problem. It said to adjust the policy settings for the Norton firewall-whatever that means.
