I buy last week NIS2009 and install it on T61 with Win XP + SP3. (Thenotebook restores the windows and format the HD i.e. clean install). I downloadthe last version. The 16.5.0.135 version of NAV2009 did not solve thisproblem.
I cannot open the hard disk by double click!!!. it is still blocked.
I can enter it from software (open...) or from start menu>run>cmd>c:.
at first I was complete surprise, Ifound this forum from Google. (Look for solution)
I am waiting for real solution.
best regards,
Meir

If you right click on "My Computer" go to properties> hardware>device manager, does it show that your drive exists? If so, click once on the drive information to highlight it and then click on "Actions" in the menu bar. Choose "Scan for hardware changes"
Then close the screen. See if the drives responds to a double click.
Do you know the name of the manufacturer of the drive, and size of the drive?

meir57, just to make sure that I understand you, when you open "My Computer" and double left-click on, say, your C: drive, nothing happens? If you right-click on C: a context menu appears and you can successfully use the Open command?
I've never heard of this type of problem before. Are you sure that double-clicking works at all? Does it work on a folder within the drive? Is the word Open bold on the context menu for the drive?

thank reese_anschultz for your response.
I did two tests:
1. I made test on T61 with NIS 2009 (it is activated)
2. I made a test on IBM T41 with Trial version to see if there is any problem with my T61 but it has the same problems ( I have 12 days left and I will be happy to remove it)
I open my computer . I double click on drive C:. and I got windows with a list of software to open.
the HARD Disk did not open.
I can enter to the hard disk in sevral ways (by pass)
double click on the windows is working great. I can open folders or external drive that connect to USB, but only the local drive seems to be locked.
BTW I used windows XP SP3 enable (local language is Hebrew)
I can try to record the sequence
it is very strange.

Meir

Meir57,
I've used Thinkpads for years although last time I had to downgrade to another make to get cheap and light at a price I could afford!
<< I double click on drive C:. and I got windows with a list of software to open. the HARD Disk did not open.

I still don't quite understand what it is that does not happen when you say "hard disk did not open" yet you can "enter to the hard disk"
A couple of questions:
What happens if you right mouse click on the disk icon in My Computer and select Properties ? Have a look on the Security TAB and see if for the user logged on is there anything odd about the Permissions granted (or not granted)?
What happens if you go through START / Programs / Accessories / Windows Explorer ? Can you then "open the disk"
Sorry if I seem dense but I can't picture what it is that you are describing as not happening.
PS -- Reese seems to have understood better than I did! (Not surprising)
It is just the double click action? Double clicking does work on other than open the drive to see the contents?
Are you using the touchpad or the thumbstick (the T61 still has that?) or an external mouse?
Have you checked the settings?
How do you "double click" -- by pressing the left mouse button (or equivalent) twice or have you a specific setting as I have on my external mice where pressing the wheel once = double click?
I ask this because I have had a period on my desktop with the mouse repetaedly losing this setting and never managed to really pin it down although it may be tied in the Fast User Switching between my two users where only the first to log on keeps the setting.

Huwyngr:
I, too, have been having difficulty figuring out what Meir is describing, but maybe I have an idea.
If you open the start menu and double-click on "programs", you get a window showing you launchable apps. It sounds like he gets the same sort of response, but by double-clicking on (C: ).
I also believe that he can open (c: ) by right-clicking and selecting "open".
And double-clicking opens any other folder subordinate to (c: ).
Meir:
What happens when you point your mouse at (c: )? You should get a tag/display showing free space and total size. Does this happen?
Here is a possible scenario:
When you double-click on (c: ) and get the list of applications you mentioned, does that list also contain folders? It is possible to set different views for each folder. Perhaps you have accidentally changed the view you get when you open (c: ). Try double-clicking on (c: ), then click on Views and change the view to something else, thumbnails or icons or ....
Report back here with the results. If nothing else, it might help us understand what is happening.
