ncw questions

First i apologize for my bad english i'm livin abroad

Two days ago i saw in the history of  my norton  internet security 2009, a line in which it's said  "commentaires sur norton community watch" ( in french) it could be translate by "comments about  NCW" and the status is "in progress".

Yet i've disabled ncw since the very beginning, i mean when i installed norton internet security 2009, so there is no way norton is currently sending information it had already collected cause i've never enabled ncw.

I read lots of posts in which it's explain that it's resulting from a last scan and there still files to submit but in my case it's just impossible. I noticed that there is only one entry (not several)  "comments about  NCW" which appears after my system get idle.

After an other period of idleness and then i checked my history and the entry had disappeared. But the next day after another period of inactivity i see a new entrie "comments about  NCW" the date and the time change and correspond of the period of idle. And it's the same everytime (it's appear, disappear etc... but always one entry)

i click on more details it's marked

"file vote 1

FV[1]

CSIDL_SYSTEM\msvcrt.dll

..............(a lot of numbers)

threats 0

DLL association count 1

DA[1]

PLease help me. I thank everyone in advance .

Re: ncw questions

Bon jour Cactus 1

You probably received the update for NIS 2009 recently and the NCW is probably just trying to submit a new version of this .dll. The Norton Community Watch may have become enabled again once you got the new update. You probably have 16.8.0.41 now if you check your version. If you want to disable it again, just go to Miscellaneous Settings and turn it off again if that is how you want it. Let us know please if that solves your problem. Mercie.

Re: ncw questions

if i've understood corectly norton isn't submitting data from my computer  it is probably just trying to submit a new version of this .dll as you said. I'm  sorry but what's exactly this .dll? And why the entry disapear ?

i checked my history one more time the entry "comments about  NCW" have been in progress since 7 hours or so , it seems it doesn't want to be submitted( i think it's due to the fact i haven't let my computer go to standby but once i will have done i'm sure it will disapear again)

I couldn't reply today anymore because in France it's almost 01:00 am.

Re: ncw questions

I just Googled it and this is what its name is...   Microsoft C Runtime Library....I am not sure what it does But it is part of the windows system I know that much so no worries there.

I know I have NCW on all the time and sometimes there is a line up of submissions ...this can take a while to clear as I do believe it does this when your computer is idle...strange that you only have one and it is taking awhile.I don't think there is a security problem to worry about, keep an eye on it and let us know in a day or so is it still there.

Cheers Mo

Re: ncw questions

Bon Jour Cactus

I had this same .dll in my NCW also a couple of times recently. Mine was processing and then it just disappeared. According to the log, it was never submitted, but I remember seeing it.  It's nothing to worry about. If it was something bad, you would have received warnings and it would have been put into quarentine. NCW keeps stats on a lot of files and that's what it was probably trying to do.

OOOO, I think I should say bon soir. J'ai oublie beaucoup de mon francais., lol

Re: ncw questions

Thanks for your answers  mo and floplot, it seems I don't have to be worry about this mysterious entry. I wasn't really anxious about this, I was just wondering how could this entry appear with ncw disable since the start but It must be normal since floplot have the same ( I think it's a part of a norton internal process and it has appeared with an update).      I have never thought it could be malicious it's just I don't like the idea that a program receives some data from my computer ( I know it's crypted, anonymous, and it was created so as to increase security but I don't like it anyway,  lol ).

Henceforth i won't take care about this entry.

Merci again for your help.

Floplot your french is still quite good.

[ Edited ]

There was an issue with Norton 2009 Products that if someone had N.C.W. "Off", it would still Load the Logs to be Sent, but it wouldn't actually be Sent - if that makes sense - which was Fixed a few Builds ago, so maybe this is an old Bug re-appearing...

Re: ncw questions

It was finally submitted the 02/03/2010. It appears as submited in the history and it stopped constantly disappearing and appearing. Nothing has changed since Tuesday.
