I am pretty sure it was more than 15 minutes after the reboot before I uninstalled it, I went back and removed the HP advisor software and have not had any problems so far with the reinstall. I probably got ahead of myself by uninstalling and reinstalling but I'm bookmarking this page so if it ever happens again I will try the steps you mentioned and post the results.
thank you for the help - I'm hoping that was just a weird fluke and I won't have any more problems!

Hey erik_carlstrom,
I tried what you said, BHDrvx64 was stopped. I tried to start it the way you said but I got "System Error 5 Has Occurred, Access is Denied"
Any other suggestions?
I have never had NIS2009 on my system, nor have I had PCanywhere on my system. I don't have any other norton programs installed. This started showing up for no known reason; as I haven't even done a system restore recently.

mvs1010,
Was BHD the only driver stopped? For your system, did you have any security software installed before installing NIS 2010? If so, what was it? How long have you had NIS installed before you received this error?

be sure that you have NIS 2010 build 17.6.0.32, that 17.5 build is a previous build.
