yesterday it started running a task as i was watching the hard-drive light running after the 1 minute but no notification would come up? - do they still come up if you have norton open at all even if its minimized?

HI snadge,
Do you know what task was running? It may not have even been Norton. If anything was running during that time it should show up in NIS History, so click History from the main window and check the events to see what/if anything ran at that time.
Also I am not sure how long that notice will stay on screen. So say you walk away from your computer and come back after an Idle full scan. The notice may have already displayed and left the screen by the time you log back in. It is all about timing. I don't see this message every time the full Idle scan has run but sometimes I do - it is not 100%.
The main thing is that the events in NIS history shows that the right thing has been done. When you click History, then select Scan Results from the drop down list. This will show you what scans have been run and what type and also when. The Idle full scans should show about once per week (assuming you have not changed the default frequency). Idle quick scans typically run after certain updates and there is no set frequency for those.
So I would recommend to check your History and if everything is correct there, you don't need to worry about it.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.

Hi snadge,
What is your history of security software prior to NIS 2011 being installed? What security software did you have installed? What it a previous verison of NIS and if so which version?
If it was another vendor's security software, did you remove it before installing NIS 2011 and how did you remove it? Any time you change security software you need to run a special removal tool designed for this purpose as most times a conventional uninstall through control panel will still leave things behind which can cause problems with your new security software.
Also, please do be sure to check your NIS history to ensure that things have at least been running per expectations.
We will look forward to more updates.
Best wishes.
Allen
