old computer to new computer

I have my current computer I am using with my Norton subscription. I have purchased a new computer. Both pc's are for my business. I need to transfer many files from old to new but I need to keep running my business. How do I keep my Norton subscription active on both pc's at the same time for the duration of my transfer of files?

Re: old computer to new computer

To get you the best advice, would you give us some more information about your system:

What version of Windows are you using including Service Packs and whether 32 bit or 64 bit as well as the Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Help / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn

If you have the COMCAST version of Norton 360 / Security Suite and not the normal commercial version please be sure to tell us.

Is the version of the Norton Product a 1 PC version then or is it a 3PC version? You can check in MyNortonAccount on line to see how many activations it makes available.

If it's a multiPC version then there should be no problem and if you give us the information about your product name and version we can give you a link to download the current version which will be more uptodate than any you may have on CD.

If it's a single PC version then I think we can find you a link to download a 30 day trial version free of charge which you could use for the interim period you need, but again we need to know which product you are using.

I know you have posted in the Norton 360 forum but we have seen mistakes made. Is it the standard version or the premier version of N 360 if that is what it is.

Re: old computer to new computer

Thanks Hugh,

I am having bigger problems now.Norton Power Eraser will not run , I get a message saying-not a valid win32 app-  even if I run in safe mode.

I get a message all the time saying svchost stopped working and and it wants to contact windows update , but if I try to contact windows update I get an error so it can't connect.

My taskbar turns white and deep in windows\system32\..........temporaryInternetFiles\content.IE5\ there are folders with internet junk that I don't know where it is from , png and jpg files that I haven't seen.I had a few trojans but they were dealt with.

I have Norton Internet Security and Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit.

Thanks,

Tony

[ Edited ]

Hang on for some more detailed help but please answer the question of what Version ID of NIS you have.

<< ...  Name and Version ID of the Norton product that you are using -- Support-Help / About is where that is, in the format of nn.nn.nn.nnn   >>

There is a specific Forum for Norton Internet Security so I'll ask for your message to be moved over there or better exposure. You won't lose sight of it because a link will be left here.

Re: old computer to new computer

Thanks for the additional information.

I'll let someone else try to help you get out of the problem situation -- is this on the original computer or on the new one?

I'm not clear why you were using the Norton Power Eraser which is a special purpose too and needs careful use since if you just run it and say yes to everything it can under certain circumstances
