Hello mtolsdorf:
Truly sorry about that! I was just trying to help.
In the meantime, you could install the free 30-day trial of NIS 2009 from this link.
Don't worry. The problem will be remediated.
I will monitor this thread, until it is.

A 30 day trial doesn't really do any good when I've got six months left of what I paid for. I'll just have to go purchase the new version I guess; unfortunately, the funds are not available to me at this time.

Please be patient for a short while. Do download and install the new version. It will act as a trial and protect you while we get this sorted out. A Symantec representative will be able to smooth the way for customer service to continue your subscription.

mtolsdorf:
Did you download and install the NIS 2009 trial?
Activation will be taken care of later.
Again, no worries.

Sorry for the incredibly unwarranted and inaccurate advice you received here. What have you done so far? If you have uninstalled the 2005 product how did you do so? Did you use the Removal Tool or the Uninstall from the Norton START menu? Is Live Update still installed on your system? Are you going with the NIS2009 installation? There maybe a possibility of getting the 2005 download for you to get you back to where you were.
Just as a possible work around for the moment, do you have System Restore enabled on your system? This may not be a true solution but we need to know what options are available right now.

I am sorry also; guess I learned my lesson to NOT take any advice from a discussion forum.
I uninstalled the old product, using the Removal tool. I installed the trial version of the 2009 product, but, it comes with only a 15 day trial period, which is completely unacceptable. Live update is installed, but, it is because of the new install of the 2009 product. I have System Restore on my system, but, I'm not sure how well it would work, as I've had an issue with it in the past.
My only solution at the moment is to deal with the 15 day trial of the new product, and fight for either a reimbursement of the rest of my paid subscription, or figure out a way to come up with the money. If I hadn't lost the original CD due to flooding in the office, this wouldn't be a problem at all.

mtolsdorf,
Sorry for the trouble. This will be resolved to your satisfaction before you have to leave. And as to advice given on this Forum, while nobody knows absolutely everything, the names here with the stars by them didn't get there without doing sound work here on the Forum. Just a note for future reference. We have no control over what someone will post here and some of the Gurus could not get here fast enough when the post to upgrade was listed.
I need to know if you see a stand alone Live Update program listing / group in your START menu; this would not be under the Norton Internet Security group.
Also, what version is listed in Help & Support > About in the main NIS screen? It should be in the form of 16.xx.xx.xxx . I'm just wanting to make sure this is the latest version.

Yes, there is a live update listed under 'Start', 'All Programs', 'Norton Internet Security', then 'Live Update'. Also, the trial version that I now have installed is '16.5.0.135'.
