"Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

After upgrading from NIS 2011 to 2012 recently, I've begun having problems with my spam e-mail. Everything is usually OK after booting in the morning. However, without warning the "Norton AntiSpam Folder"  in Outlook Express suddenly loses the "Empty Norton AntiSpam Folder" line in the dropdown menu! Also, the dropdown menu in the inbox loses the "Norton AntiSpam" line in its dropdown menu, so I can't mark any mail as "spam". If I reboot the missing lines in the dropdown menus return, BUT may go missing again during the day without warning! Any ideas on what to do about this?

There may be a problem with your installation. Try clicking on Support - Get Support from the main user interface. This will check you installation, and fix anything it finds.

Than run LiveUpdate a few times, rebooting as necessary, until there are no updates available.

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

There is no problem with the install but is with nis2012 and outlook express. For more info please read " norton anti spam button reader input...."

Its been a ongoing problem with many that some went elsewhere and I went back to 2011 and once again happy. If you stay with 2012 get use to it but like me 11 alls good.

I may just do that!  (go back to 2011)  Never had this problem in the 10+ years I've used Norton antivirus products.

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

Hi,

Welcome to the community.

I would like to know whether you are facing this issue after the 2012 Norton Internet Security installation or after any recent windows update.

Also let me know the version of Microsoft Office installed on your system.( Office 2007 or Office 2010 ) Also is it 32 bit or 64 bit version.

Thanks

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

I've eliminated the mysteriously disappearing AntiSpam button by simply minimising the OE window after reading mail rather than closing it during the day. This is clearly NOT a fix, but it eliminates the constant need to reboot! 2 days now without a "problem".

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

So I thought I had the solution. (at least till the real problem is solved) (see my post above) Not really...

This morning my system booted as usual. The small yellow Norton icon with the green checkmark appeared in the taskbar and XP finished loading. I open my OE and downloaded a pile of mail from last night and early this morning only to find it ALL in my Inbox folder - NOTHING in the Spam folder. As usual, about 80% of the mail was spam. Also, the Norton AntiSpam icon at the top of the window in the Toolbar was missing. So why didn't it get put into the spam folder as usual. The Norton icon in the taskbar was indicating the software was active, so I clicked on it and opened the Norton window. Strangely, the window opened but none of the links, such as "Live Update" or "Scan Now" would operate. I closed the window and opened it again. After a few seconds of HD activity the links became active! I then opened OE, and there was the Norton AntiSpam button at the top of the page in the Toolbar where it belongs.

The fact that the taskbar icon was there, but the Toolbar icon was not, is interesting. Also, the inactive links ("Live Update", etc) may be a clue. These things may indicate that something in the registry is out of place or missing. Not sure. Hopefully these little hints may help some code genius find the problem.

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

I am also having this problem ever since I updated to 2012. I have WinXP32 with OE6. It seems like as many people having this problem there would be a fix by now. I have to reboot constantly to get the Anti-Spam button to apear or function. Was never a problem with 2011. It will work for a while and then quits functioning. Pls fix this Norton!!! I dont want to have to go back to 2011.

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

Today, for the first time in about a week, the Anti-Spam button and its functions stayed put ALL day. Preciously, I've tried everything including a complete uninstall and reinstall. No fix.  Yesterday, I got so sick of rebooting, I decided to download another copy from my account where I still had 2 installs of 2012 left. These were installs from January, before the latest upgrade. I did a restart, but still had the problem. I gave up for the day. This morning, however, after a cold boot, everything has worked perfectly. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, but at least I've had a full 15 hours of proper operation!

Re: "Empty" Norton AntiSpam Folder??

@ Snit3, you should read the other antispam posts, To solve your problem go to settings and enable boot protection and reboot. Your problem will be gone. Tony let me know and it works for me and seems like many others. I am running 2012 on my backup machine and its now doing good, but my main is back to 2011 and all's great.

To let you know I always have boot time protection enabled but somehow upgradeing to 2012 it got turned off and I should have seen this. It does not slow my boot time down very much, I cannot tell the differance when it is enabled compaired to not.

Just turn it to normal and reboot and all will be good.
