something really disturbing needs fix asap

doing a full system scan on my laptop with norton internet security 2010.

and while my laptop idles norton also try's to start up another background scan during idle slowing down scan progress thats already in progress bigtime.

plz fix this asap.

another disturbing fact is that mostly 50% off these files are dectected as false positives.

now i'm not gone waste my team submiting every file i dont work for norton i payed for my product i expect norton to deal with it properly.

Zer0K3wl:

As explained in the link that you provided, many of those files are packers, which Norton should be aware of and react to.  If you do not take the time to submit the files as false positives, there is no way for Symantec to make any changes.  I'm certain that the rest of us do not want a decreased reaction to packers in our machines since malware also makes use of the same type of file.  They can't just make a global exclusion for all of them.

i dont like it when people insult me for being a dumb retard and defending their favorite brand over something simple.

its easy enough for symantec to pick this up and fix this in next update.

instead some people come here to bash and troll or whatever.

Re: something really disturbing needs fix asap

If you have idle time scans set for weekly, and then start a manual scan about the same time that it is due to run, there is no process in Norton for it to recognize a scan is already running.  It will start up anyway, or redo the whole scan if it doesn't manage to overlap.  You can turn idle time scans to off, if you prefer to run your own.

How do you imagine Symantec can fix your false positives, if you don't send them the files??

idle scans happen every 5 mins.........

well in internet security 2010 that is haven't noticed yet in 2011 running better so far hopefully it does't dectect to many false positives.

Stay in touch and let us know how 2011 handles those demo files.  The one I looked at was an ftp download, which is interesting.  I'm thinking that 2011 is likely to be more sensitive to .exe's and dll's for a while, but the heuristics will be what gives you problems, probably.
