HI
Ive never had trouble with quick scan on my limited user side but over last few months ocasionally the ability to run it just stops it does nothing when clicked. (the user menu comes up but wont scan on limited side, it always used too).
Ive not made any changes Im aware of unless a windows update did it?
I have to log out and go to adminstrator side to run a quick repair with norton thru the instant service help thing in norton.
sometimes it will fix it sometimes it doesnt, never shows anything as wrong though. It seems like I have to do that and a restart on limited side to fix it.
What gives any ideas why the sporadic loss?
Thanks :)

Hi artfreak,
Which Norton program(name and version) do you use?
Better run the scans only from Administrator User account in your computer. In Windows, a user account is a collection of information that tells Windows what files and folders you can access, what changes you can make to the computer, and your personal preferences, such as your desktop background or color theme. User accounts make it so that you can share a computer with several people, but still have access to only your own files and settings. An Administrator account is an account that lets you make changes that will affect other users, such as changing security settings. You can access all the files on the computer from an Administrator account.
When a virus gets into your computer, it may not stay there in your "User Name" account only. It may replicate itself under different forms under files/folders under all User Accounts in your computer. If you log into your Limited User Account and run a scan, the scan may only check files associated with your account, not the other user profiles/accounts in your computer. Sometimes, the AntiVirus won't be able to remove/repair the threats in Limited User Account due to the lack of permissions to access the files. Thus the infection remains unchanged. In order to avoid this, it is recommended to run the scan by logging in Administrator account.

thank you for your reply :) I run nis 2009 on win xp sp2 up to date.
I do regular full system scans from my adminstrative side. However before closing down system after surfing from limited side of xp I run a quick scan daily at night. It always worked in past and only sporadically does now.

It just never did this to me now its everyday. Its a pain.

No havent changed any settings for users at all. Thats why the only thing I can think of is windows updates (the usual once a month tues ones) maybe fouled it up. Ive not installed any new software either.
The most recent updates had to do w/ framwork 3.0 or something which I dont have but it recc'd taking it as it had something to do w/ framework 2. Ive no clue if thats it and I tried to delete it but it got complicated and I didnt.
I cant even be sure if it traces back to that, I did do a system restore to before but it didnt help, and windows has since reinstalled the framework thing.
anyway... any ideas appreciated its a pain to sign on as adminst daily to get the limited side of nis to function right. As it used to be fine.
It appears to run fine for a few hours then just not scan or show updates anymore after a few hours of being on till I sign on admin side and reset it so to speak.
Thanks :)
PS: Ive scanned for virus etc..all okay. and I dont use other security of any kind.

It would help to know what item is found when you run the scan in One Click Support. Could you list the title and the description when you click "More Info".

Hi
I had something similiar happen in this thread
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?b
I just put it down to a hiccup ,My oneclick support did not give any error report. And all appears to be working.I have the framework 3.5 installed but that was a while ago so I don't think it's a problem.

Understood mo. I was trying to see what was detected in One Click Support by artfreak. Yours appears resolved, but the fact that something is detected in the admin user is curious.
