upgrade to NIS2012 from NAV2010 (sealed not-used copy)?

Good morning,

a year and half ago I've received Norton Antivirus 2010 (3PC licences) as a gift, which I've never used. The NAV2010 is still in a sealed box lying in front of me atm.

Over the time I've done my research and the thought of giving Symantec solution a try (after hearing things like you've done rewrite from scratch + are getting perfomance awards) was still there, so I would like to switch from AVAST! (which I have for free) to a paid solution but with firewall this time - so NIS2012 (instead of NAV2012).

Am I able to get some disscount on Norton Internet Security 2012 for 3PC licences even though I have 'only' antivirus part of it? (NAV2010 - never installed/activated).

Thank you!

Richard

P.S. there is even a discount coupon avaiable for NIS2012 + running promotion, I don't know whether I can use this together

Re: upgrade to NIS2012 from NAV2010 (sealed not-used copy)?

Hi Richard,

I'll get the ball rolling and I am sure there will be others who will add more.

Unfortunately, switching from NAV to NIS will have to be done by purchasing a new program.  There is no credit for an unused NAV against a NIS.  Now if you wanted to upgrade to NAV 2012, the unused license for NAV 2010 would permit you to do that free of charge.

Switching from AVAST to NIS will require you to totally uninstall AVAST, inlcuding using the AVAST removal tool  after you remove the AVASTprogram via the Control Panel prior to install NIS.

By all means use the discount coupon.

If you have any more questions about the procedure let us now.

Re: upgrade to NIS2012 from NAV2010 (sealed not-used copy)?

Thank you very much for the response. I will buy it then.

I have NIS2012 Trial version installed - 12 days remaining registered on a friend's email address...

Now I am going to buy Norton Internet Security from pcworld.co.uk, great price BUT.

The email address I am providing in the forms now - is my official email address (together with credit card details) - so once I'll buy it will I be able to use the product code on (already installed) NIS2012? (with different e-mail address put when installation begain for try-out purposes)?

How to 'purge' it? Do I need to reinstall? Thanks.

Richard

Hi,

Since you are already on the trail version of NIS only, you would not have any issues in using the new product key.

Just go ahead and shop NIS online with your e-mail ID credentials, once you get the product key just click on the "Activate Now" link in the main product UI, it will prompt you to enter the product key. Just enter the product key of NIS which you shopped online. Once the activation is complete, it would ask you to enter your NA credentials. If you are already registered @ www.account.norton.com , enter those credentials if not just create your own credentials and enter it when prompted in the product post activation. That's it, the key is now tagged to your e-mail i.e. your account and you can view the info on www.account.norton.com site also.

Hope have not confused you much:smileywink: Do let me know if you have any queries.

Regards,

Prasanna

Hi,

You will not have to uninstall/reinstall.  Simply click renew and enter your new product key,  but best to wait until your trial is about to expire as you will lose any remaining days.

If your trial is on your friends account,  then you may have to contact Customer Support via Live Chat to put your new subscription into your name.  If it is in your name then you can log in and change your email address yourself.  I hope this helps.

@ fajciarX,

I migh as well add my 2 cents....  once you get the new NIS product key loaded, you can go into your exsisting Norton Account, click on the PROFILE on the main menu across top of the page, and change your email address from your friends address to your own address.  I believe that will do the trick for you, without having to create a new account or contacting CHAT.
