My old antivirus software (from MacAfee which was great) expired at the end of 2009 I didn't renew it immediately and apparently my computer is full of viruses. I installed Norton today and performed several full system scans, ran liveupdate as "help" suggested restarted my computer countless times, scanned the files vista guardian says is infected with Trojans and found nothing more than tracking cookies with Norton. What the hell is going on?? I'm almost at the stage of throwing my computer against the wall!
Is there any way of getting rid of vista guardian or turning it off seeing as I am now "protected" by Norton? Should I just get another antivirus product that actually works?
I actually feel a bit better after my little rant I hope someone can help me,
Sarah

Hi, Sarah!
"Vista Guardian" is a virus. It's telling you you have infections, when it is in fact Vista Guardian that is the virus.
Please download MBAM from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_ant
It's free. Install and run a full scan.

Another one but ever so slightly different
Fix Registry Entries First
I have created a long fix including the Handlers here
http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~crutches/Longexe
You might have to right click then "Save as" to download
Once Downloaded, just run the .reg file (click with Mouse)
Oh and in Independent tests McAfee is behind Norton in results

Hi Sarah
You also need to remove McAfee properly using their removal tool in addition to using add/remove. Antivirus programs usually bury themselves deeply into your computer and need an extra removal tool to remove them completely. Please go to their website and get their tool and please make sure that your old McAfee program is completely removed. If there are some remains of the old McAfee program still in your computer, those remains may interfere with your Norton product.
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.
