x86 intelligent updated package failing

When I run the updater for one of my machines I get an error

can't run 16 bit windows program

can not find file

c:\documents and settings\*myprofile*\localsettings\temp\RarSFX5\updater.exe

ensure path and file name are correct and the required libraries are available.

I was able to update this machine before but I am having issues all of a sudden.

It is a 32 bit win XP system.

Re: x86 intelligent updated package failing

Hi! Dealage,

Please go to Start>Run type in CMD in the box & press enter (this opens the Command Prompt).  Once the Command Prompt window is open type in CHKDSK /R then press enter.  You'll be informed that the disk cannot be locked & asked if you want to schedule the task for the next time Windows starts type in the letter Y then press enter.  Then type in Exit and press enter from here you'll need to restart the computer; the computer will check the drive for errors & correct them take note of the errors corrected (if any) in Stages 1-4 & report them here.

P.S. What Norton product (i.e.; NIS 2012, NAV 2012 or N360 v.6) are you trying to update?

Re: x86 intelligent updated package failing

It is Norton antivirus 10.1 I believe.

I ran the chkdsk /r but unfortunately the laptop I am having issues with does not have a working screen so I am using an external monitor. This external monitor does not start showing any info until windows begins to boot.. I could see the chkdsk running by closely examining the built-in laptop screen but not enough to actually read anything. the process did complete and windows loaded but I received the same error when attempting to intall the update.

Re: x86 intelligent updated package failing

because the error mentioned 16 bits I thought there might be something wrong with the updater checking to see the bit depth of the OS so I downloaded the i32 updater which I believe only runs on the 32 bit systems. My 10.1 updated successfully!
