When Norton Security is granted administrator privileges on my Xperia Arc running GB 2.3.4 I am unable to connect the phone to my PC in Media Transfer Mode. The phone does not show up in "My Computer" and the Sony PC Companion software will not see the phone as being connected.
Disabling the "Security Lock" feature in NS settings, which removes the admin rights, restores all connectivity but limits NS's ability to protect the phone.
Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Sorry but I can't comment at the moment dph15 as I can't get version 3 to run. :-(
So you are in a quite privileged position really. ;-)
Once I get the software up and running I will try to have a look.

Hi dph15
It would appear that there is a connection between your issue and my issue in
this post here.
I have removed the Sony Software now and i have no issues, not sure if it is that
easy with you issue.? If you can test uninstalling your Sony Companion program
with out loosing any files or data saved it might be worth a try to see if that is
where the problem is.?
If it means loosing files and backups etc i would hold off for the time being as hopefully
the Norton Team will look into this Sony and NMS 3.0 issue.
Let us know how you go. :-)

Update:
If I change my phone's connection setting from "media transfer mode" to "mass storage mode" then the PC and phone connect just fine when NS has been granted device admin rights.
It would appear that my problem presents itself only when the phone is configured to use media transfer mode for usb connections.
Further update:
After toggling the connection modes several times for testing purposes...it appears that the phone is now connecting to the PC in either mode, even after rebooting the PC. I guess this means that the problem was a windows problem and not a problem with NS. Strange how toggling device admin rights convinced windows to see the phone though. For now it looks like all is working as it should. If the problem resurfaces, I'll resurrect this thread.

Good news.
Glad your issue is solved and you now have the full protection of
NMS 3.0.
